I just picked up a Beretta PX4 Storm subcompact.
Before this I only had .45 caliber in my safe so I need to know which 9mm self defense HP is best for a 3" barrel gun.

I have some 124gr HSTs on the way (not +p)
I was also looking at the Gold Dot 'short barrel' ammo 124+p

    Which is best?

HST and Gold Dot in 124/124+P are both very good rounds. Make sure your round of choice functions properly in Your gun.

Rangers, HST's, Gold Dots, Golden Sabers... I doubt a bad guy on the receiving end would be able to tell a difference between any of them. The "best" is whichever load functions the most reliably out of your gun.

I normally use 115 +P+, 124 +P and 127 +P+ in my 9mms and don't normally go for the heavy loads. But I do have an MK9 and on the theory that heavy = less velocity loss in 3" tube I use 147 grain P9HST2 load from Federal. It is supposed to be a pretty good load so I reserve it for my shorty 9 since I only have 90 + out of my original 150 of them.

BTW congrats on getting your Beretta.

    Agreed. I prefer 147gr because I prefer heaviest-by-caliber.
