I've read about entry teams using a 12ga. to blow hinges, locks, etc. But what the best round to do the job when it comes to defeating obstacles/barriers?

I'm guessing slugs because of the massive power behind them. However, maybe 00 Buckshot would make for more devastation.

Are there specific rounds designed primarily for such a task? I don't have a real need for such things...I'm just curious.

Slugs will indeed offer the best penetration. Specialized LE rounds for door breaching/lock busting are generally made of compressed metals that 'vaporize' when they hit a hinge or lock. Little non-police use for these.
