Ok. I guess I assumed you were talking about nukes, when you said you wanted the round that does the most damage & gets 20" of penetration. The .30 Carbine vs 30-06 analogy also led me to believe you were talking about nukes. I do consider the original Norma load , 200gr JHP @ 1200fps, to be a nuke out of a 4.6" G20. Most of the other guys in this thread are talking about Underwood's HOT stuff. Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember seeing you say what load you actually carry?

Yeah, I guess I could have made that a little more clear. Saying most damage possible wasn't technically correct. My bad. I have carried a few different factory loads, but now I roll my own. 180gr XTP @1250 fps. 625ft/lbs of energy. I can shoot it very well. That is my new load, my older one was 1200 fps and 575 ft/lbs of energy. I figure anything in the 600-650 ft/lb range in 170 - 200 gr bullets is duplicating the Norma loads, which is what I want. Nuclear stuff in the 700-750 ft/lb range is fun to shoot, but I think, like you said, it makes follow up shots too difficult.

There is a chart on this page in the link I provided if you scroll down far enough, and it has bullet weight and speed separated into categories. I know it is just one persons opinion, but I think it is accurate. "Full power" and "Hot" mean the same thing to me. I like to shoot full power loads, as i think that is what this gun was intended to shoot.

That's a pretty reasonable and versatile load. It should work pretty well on people and critters.

My philosophy is to carry a magazine of light and fast as well as a mag of slow and heavy. When I leave the city, I can switch the heavy stuff into the gun and in town I can switch the lighter stuff back in.

ETA: just noticed it was an XTP. They don't do too well through clothing. Might want to consider Gold Dot, Ranger T, Golden Saber, etc. The modern designs expand really well even after passing through clothing. XTP, like Hydrashok and some of the other older designs tend not to expand well, even with light clothing. Good bullet for game, though.

I have been known to carry those 175 grain Silvertip JHP's that Meathead speaks of...

That load also happens to be the ONLY one on Brassfetcher's site right now. Normally, the smart money would be on a bonded JHP, but in my inexpert opinion, it seems to me that 10mm has enough velocity that jacket separation or a small amount of fragmentation isn't necessarily a bad thing. The bits still get pretty deep and the core definitely reaches far enough.

The arguments for weak 10mm ammo anger me as if you want weak 10, buy a .40 S&W.

All the big brand 10mm makers provide nothing in terms of performance of power (most of the reason this bullet was built). I'm not the only one bothered by big brand 10mm ammo with power specs close to the 9mm am I?

If I want an low power pistol I'll buy another one, but this is and should be Glock's big boy.

Not sure what ammo you're comparing to the 9mm but the 10mm I looked at was around 200 ft.lbs more than the 9.

Sorry buddy, but a 175gr JHP @ 1150fps or a 180gr JHP @ 1200fps aint no 40. Sure, it's not up to the full potential of 10mm, but it's still more power than any other semi-auto pistol out there. It's a crying shame that our LE/SWAT/SF operators are ALL so outgunned with their pu$$y a** 9's & 40's...

What 10mm ammo have you found that's loaded down to 9mm ballistics?

If what I'm gathering from your post is correct, I hope your first shot incapacitates your assailant (and that there's only ONE). Otherwise, some dirtbag(s) will probably spray you with 9mm before your front sight comes back down. I love this machismo nonsense.

Please read all my posts in this thread before replying, chances are I've answered everything you'll say.

Not that I'm the one this question was intended for but just to answer it.
10mm PPU 180 gr is as weak as 9mm.

    The weakest I ever tested

WOW!!! I seriously had no idea there was factory 10mm ammo loaded that weak. Unbelievable...

Thanks for the info, however nobody is recommending that load for SD. The weakest load suggested is a 175gr STHP @ 1150+fps, which is about 300fps faster than that PPU load.

Just carry it, just shoot if you must, for the love of God hit the intended target as accurately as possible as many times as necessary to stop the threat. I don't think it matters as long as you have enough penetration to STOP THE BASTARD,

I would bet anything that if you hit the perp 3 or 4 times center mass with a load that meets TRUE 10mm standard he won't be whistling Dixie
