OK, I've tried to upgrade my Inspiron 4000 3 times and each time AVG 7.0 free edition crashes it on boot and I get thrown into Safe Mode. Anybody else have problems or any ideas? ME, 192RAM,1 ghz.

I had the same thing happened but it finally loaded.

-just to tag on to your post. With AVG 7.0, it seems to take forever to power up the computer. Is there any way to configure it so it just loads and scans when I want to run the application?

    Give me AVG 6.0 back.

I've seen these complaints a few times about AVG 7 on cetain PC's.Maybe try Avast.Anti-Vir is pretty good but also causes problems in certain PC's and is difficult to uninstall. Most of Anti-Vir's support is in German so Avast looks like a better choice.I tried AVG a year or 2 ago and back then it missed some things. Also updates weren't as often in the free version back then. They had a schedule. It was once or twice a month.I tried Avast about 3 or 4 months ago and it worked great.

I second the vote for AVAST!

I was an unabashed fanboy of AVG for years, but I have seen LOTS of issues of late; so for my clients (and MY PC's) it's Avast all the way.

At least until Grisoft gets a patch out that fixes their code.

I'm now an AVAST fan also (XP SP2), however the new free version of AVG works faultlessly in my GF's pc w/98 2E.

Well since installing Avast my e-mail downloads faster than with AVG and worlds faster than with Norton AV 2005. Hopefully I'll never have to use any Symantec products again.

Does your GF's computer take a long time to boot up? I find with AVG installed it must be going through a lot of processes at startup.

Aashooter, about a second longer as it scans the bios on boot. Hers is an old K6 so it's slow anyway. But after it's up and running it doesn't seem to hinder performance although I havn't checked resources used, before and after.
