How do I get my avatar up?
I looked at the rules, all the things. I couldn't find it.
Also, there are areas where I can't post.
Do I need more posts? More time? If so, how much.

    Welcome to Glock Talk!

To set up an Avatar, use the User Control Panel (User CP) link in the Quick Links menu at the top-right corner of most pages. There is also a link in the Quick Links menu to go to the FAQs (frequently asked questions), where you can find a lot of good basic info. Here are excerpts for the two areas you asked about:

Why can't I post in some forums:
    http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/faq.php?faq=newmembers#faq_blockedforums

    Avatars:
    http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb3_user_profile#faq_vb3_signatures_avatars

    Hope this was helpful.

    I know what avatars are.
    It tells me that.
It does not tell me if I can or cannot use an avatar.
It simply says "in some cases".
As to the memberships, it lists Platinum, Gold and Silver, but it doesn't seem to have any information as to what those different levels of membership provide.
I don't see that it explains why I would want Gold instead of Silver, etc.

    Thenk yew.
I know how to do it.
If I want to use an off the (Glock Talk) shelf avatar.
In fact I was using one.
However, my goal was to use one of my own which would reflect my personage, or something like that.

    I got ya.

You might have to have a minimum of posts before you can use your own

You are restricted to different areas of the forum until you have 10 posts. I'm not sure if that opens everything up to post on or not.

I was able to add my own avatar before I even posted anything. I guess the question is, if everyone else can see it other than myself ?

    The little Spartan helmet.
    I can see it.

It must be based on time as a member versus post count.
I remember back long ago it was just 15 posts to be a senior member. I assumed it was the same for avatars as well.

When you go to the Edit Avatar page in the User CP, watch for the option for a Custom Avatar to show up. Once the option appears, then you can add one, in accordance with the instructions. I'm pretty sure it's linked to your post-count and a minimum of 30 days' time on the board.

Here's what the Edit Avatar option looks like on my User CP page:

<---------- 30 days... guessing just the 20 posts, though I have put in more than that.

Thanks! I was wondering, but sorta figured that it was time and post related.

I can understand. There has to be some way for the moderators to check out the sincerity of new members before they give them more options.

    Cool.

    Well, I'm quite sincere.
That's why I wanted to put up an avatar and all.
I would think that demonstrates my sincerity.

I am not a sincere humanoid.

I am an insincere internet bot. I know many things, but give wrong info on purpose.

My mission is to cause irritation.
