Ok fellas, those of you that remember the Corvette engine being destroyed by the shop not running the engine with oil can now answer something for me. I am asking for some money back so they claim because the wrist pin and rod came apart that it was not from the oil being low.:wow: I have never seen a street engine with less than 37k on it do a 'Nascar" like that from normal driving.

So what does the GT braintrust think?

    achems razor.

Other than hydrolocking an engine, low oil pressure is the most sure fire way of ending a motor. It sounds like they are trying a hail Mary to see if there is some way to lower their liability.

It depends on the rod configuration, were they pressed pin rods? Yes, no oil can cause this, probably not commonly, but not unheard of. I have seen pistons sieze in bores on a engine with no oil and tear rods and cranks apart.

It was the small block L98 and at the time they said the piston froze so I am thinking they are trying to blame the engine. I think they are full of it but I am checking with you guys before I make a fool of myself.:faint:

Rods aren't the only part that needs oil. I don't know the rest of your story but if your engine was run for any time without oil and it ends up having a catastrophic failure at 37000 miles I would be suspicious that the two are related.

Piston siezed in bore or rod bearing seized up.
Floating wrist pins require very little and in a low power situation gall at worst.
Any shop that runs a motor low on oil and not cover damages is suspect.:whistling:
Any mechanic worth his salt double checks ALL fluids and connections before a run to prevent just such a occurance.

They started it without priming it and it was run without oil from what I was told or it had low pressure. Then when started it was ticking and about ten miles later the engine blew up. I guess that is the only time I will ever experience a "Nascar" meltdown on a major highway. :faint:I bought an old Chevy van that had been sitting for ten years without running. Put a battery in it, checked the oil and it ran like a top. So this was all new to me.
