As an Animal lover, should I go into the Firefighting Service?

I am battling two prospective paths as far as career changes and I was hoping that the GT rift-raft, present company accepted of course, would be able to help me out.

I have no clue what the career changes would be, but I know I hate my job. I love animals, so should I become a Firefighter? However, I also love fish, so should I become a Florida Wildlife Commission Officer (a.k.a. "game warden")?

I'm really torn betwixt and between.

I have to ask a possible dumb question, what does being an animal lover have to do with being a firefighter? I'm lost.

Don't know about FL, but game wardens here have a pretty good job.

I love animals, and I love fish. If you're contemplating a career change based on that criteria alone you should become a chef.

I always say to apply for everything, the choice isn't yours until you have a job offer. One may have an opening the other not, or you may not be selected.

It ain't a dumb question...I'm as lost as you are. Animals aren't priority #1 for firefighters, and most fish aren't still around because of game wardens.

Let's knock both firefighter and game warden out of the picture with these:

    Zookeeper or Animal Rescue

Those both look like you should be a fish and wildlife officer, unless you're like one of thiose tree-hugging animal rights guys. Then you should become a burger flipper (widlife conservation is overwhelmingly paid for by hunters and fishermen, not animal lovers, so anti-hunters, for example, don't have long careers).

I don't get the firefighter thing. What does that have to do with animals? You know they don't really send firemen to get cats out of trees, right?

    Pet Store Clerk.

Fish and Wildlife Officer works with hunters and fishermen who are actually more interested in protecting wildlife than most people. But they have a more mature outlook than the Disney crowd with a healthy dose of self interest thrown in.

As already suggested. Pet store or animal rescue. Or even with a private conservation group, such as the Audubon Society, local nature preserves & conservancies, etc...

Firefighting can be fun and also very boring. I don't know your location but where I am we don't fight much fire. I work on an ambulance that responds to fire calls. You could probably volunteer at a fire house and still work at a pet store!

There seems to be a demand for artificial insemination services.

I would think that has more to do with animals than firefighting.

Most animal rescue people don't get paid - tough career path.

Game and Fish Warden or Marine Police sounds like a good job to me.
