I was just curious if there were brands and models that were reliable in the Officer's size.

I am still testing my Detonics Combat Master V.

Yes,.....the Springfield Compact 45 was very reliable. Mine is getting
a bit of work at Rogers Precision as we speak.

The DW CCO is very good as well, Colt had a reliable Officer's model too.

The small 1911s have improved greatly over the years.

I know of 3 since the 3 I've owned have been 100% reliable with any 230gr ammo out there in ball, HP, standard and +P pressure. They consist of a RIA Compact and two Kimber Ultra Carry IIs.

I have a Colt New Agent and a Colt Defender Plus. Both have been 100% from day one. The New Agent was purchased new. I had to send it back for a factory recall but I have had no problems before or since.

The Defender Plus was purchased used. It looks like it may have had quite a few rounds through it before I got it. It came to me with a replaced extractor, night sights, ambidextrous safety and extended slide stop.

I usually carry both of them with the factory magazines they came with. For extra magazines I use Cobra and Chip McCormick. I have had no problems with either.

I believe I have heard rumors that Chip McCormick magazines should not be used in an aluminum frame 1911. I have had no problems with them at all.

The ammo used in them is either FMJ or Speer Golddot 200 gr. plus p.

CCO, Officer's frame but Commander slide, has run perfectly through the first 1200 rounds of everything from LSWC, LRN, FMJ to JHP. I prefer this size combo to the Officer size, but then that is just me....

Much as I talk smack on Colt, I have a good friend that has beaten the snot out of his Defender... it isn't pretty anymore (assuming you thought it was pretty to begin with), but it keeps on throwing lead.

I owned a S&W Pro Series Sub Compact (3" bbl) and it was perfectly reliable for me.

I used to own a Kimber ultra carry II, I wouldnt trust my life to that gun against a teddy bear...

So many issues, failure to go into battery, fte's etc. Got rid of it and looking for a new one as we speak, just no longer into Kimbers.

Yes. Of course there are. If they were all unreliable junk, they'd have disappeared years ago.

    But...

The percentage of reliable, out of box chopped variants is lower than observed with 5-inch pistols.

I have a RIA compact 1911 and an STI Guardian. Both are flawless. The STI needed a little tweaking on the slide stop but now it runs perfectly. The RIA seems to run with any magazines while the STI only likes higher end magazines. The STI is my normal off duty carry.

  17. I love my Kimber Ultra Tacticle. Runs like a champ.

  18. Glad to hear/see reliable compact 1911s are coming online more and more in recient years. I think another thing to consider with compact 1911s is to find an ammo they like and stick w/ it.
