I know this technically isn't the right forum but the tactics and training forum isn't ever really productive.

I am purchasing a DDM4 here in the next few weeks, along with a case of 5.56. Instead of pissing it away on the range, I would love to pay to take a carbine class to truly learn.

Does anyone know of any, or can point in the right direction of carbine classes in Va? Either 1 or 3 day classes are fine.

So far im having trouble coming up with anything in Va for 2010
  2. They usually have some carbine courses at the NRA range.

+1 for the NRA tactical carbine class. Isn't Blackwater also close to VA?
  4. The US Training Center (formerly the Blackwater training division) is located in Moyock, NC (other locations include one in Illinois and another in San Diego).

That's it... Moyock, NC... isn't that close to VA? If not, I know San Diego is very close to VA... just a few day's drive, or a 5 hour flight, is all.:whistling:
  6. Yes, Moyock is close to VA, but "close to VA" is not very helpful in relation to actual location. My post was an attempt to clarify exactly where the OP could find some courses.

I listed the other locations because I knew some detractor with nothing better to do would come out of the woodwork talking about how Moyock is not the only US Training Center out there.

Just got my Colt 2 months ago.. and have been looking for a class. Shyt I've even put a 100 rounds through it AT the NRA HQ range in Fairfax and I had no idea they offered carbine classes.

Thanks a million for that info!

This was the carbine class I am planning on signing up for when the weather gets above 50 degrees daily, its in Fredricksburg.

    Carbine Class (Open Enrollment)
Folks this will be an OPEN enrollment Carbine class in 2009 for PTTA & CCJA. We will be shooting on Steel and Paper from barricades and vehicles. We can shoot out to 500 yards on the Carbine range.

    Every Month

    Prerequisite: None

    Class Size: 15 Students Max

Instructors: Tom Perroni & PTTA & CCJA Staff Instructors

This course is designed to develop a solid foundation of shooting skills with the carbine. The student will exercise these skills in a variety of shooting situations. The student will quickly gain experience, confidence and increase their skill level with the carbine and using it in tactical situations.

The following topics will be discussed during the course:

    · Safety
    · Nomenclature
    · Armorer Maintenance & Proper Lubrication
    · Fundamentals of shooting: Stance, Sights, Grip, Trigger Control
    · Malfunction Drills (Tap, Rack, Fight) Status Check
    · Magazine Changes & Weapons Handling Skills
    · Multiple shoots, Multiple targets, Shoot, Move Communicate
    · Shooting on the move, Shooting reactive targets
    · Shooting behind cover and from barricades
    · Transition from Carbine to Handgun
    · Breaking Contact & Peeling Left & Right (Bounding)

We will BZO @ 25 & 50 yards using iron sights and then co-witness Eo-Techs or Aim Points.

This one day course is very comprehensive and packs in a great deal of information. It is not a canned course, it is very dynamic and teaches real world skills from Instructors that operate or have operated in High Threat Environments. You will learn more in this one day course than you will from most 2/3 day courses.

I saw that class listed above in Fredricksburg but I could have sworn that the site said it was in late 2009, ie already passed. I'll take another look though.

And does anyone have a link to the NRA class? When I searched all I could find was the BASIC rifle class for 12 year olds. I'm new to tactical shooting, but I know what the bolt is :whistling: haha

Thanks Guys! And yes NC is close to Va, just a state away :tongueout:

NC is still 4 hours from me, so somewhere like Fredricksberg is MUCH closer.

Oh, and by the way, DDM4 in the mail!! Should be here next week :supergrin::supergrin:

Pat Rogers is excellent and while usually traveling, is based in VA and does classes there.

thank you very much for this link....well worth looking into. Seems this class also builds on itself, from beginning to much more intense style training.

Eventually I want to invest in the most intense training I can, and having a solid base with the same quality instructor is key.

Look into a reputable training group or training site.

Some of the well known reputable ones include:
    -Thunder Ranch
    -Magpul Dynamics
  16. Viking Tactics

They offer a great shooting course that is given by true professionals that have developed the techniques over years of combat and operational experience. I don't see any dates in VA but the course would definitely be worth the drive.

While the above referenced are all very good courses. The Op asked about Virginia?? You Just missed Chris Costa from Mag Pull at CCJA for 2 day Advanced Carbine Course. I was talking with Pat Rogers 2 days ago about doing a class at CCJA although we have not firmed up a date.

Please check our calendar for 2010. we have a Carbine Class on the 16th taught By Me (Former Blackwater Instructor) Pete Spooner former Navy SEAL and Jade Sherrocks former MARSOC Marine. We also have a Range day only on the 17th for CCJA Alumni only.

You can read AAR's on the course at:

Tom you've just scored a new customer.. great response as I would have to rent a handgun to fulfill the requirements for the course. I may not have the $$$ for the ammo & gear before the 16th.. but there is no doubt as soon as I do Im signing up for your course.
