I want to buy a decent pile of ammo for my AR. I have some of the Ulynavosk (sp?) that is steel case from Cheaper than dirt and it works fine. Penetrates a 1/4" steel plate like nothing, and tumbles through trees with breeze (due to the steel jacket I presume). I really like the stuff, as it DOES tumble. However, I realize there may be better choices.

What do you think of these two out of a 16" barrel with a 1/9 twist?

62 gr m855 with steel penetrator from PMC X-Tac

I am finding AR ammo cheaper now than it was way before November 2008. Decent quality US made brass cased 55gr. (such ad Federal) is going for $6 per 20rd box. 55 grain should be fine in a 1/9 barrel but you probably wouldnt want to go any heavier than 62gr.

That's a myth, in fact Hornady TAP's PD ammo in 75gr is MADE for rifles with a 1/9 twist. It even says so on the package.

Also, does anyone know if the Ulynavosk .223 55gr ammo fragments? The stuff I have is FMJ..

I like LC XM193 and M855. Buy as much as you can afford.

If you can get Lot 10 XM193 get it. Of the three lots I've shot it's been the most consistant in velocity and accuracy! If you want to do alittle cheaper but stay brass they also sell bulk .223 Rem which is usually about $40 cheaper then 5.56mm per thousand!

Did you ever figure out your sighting problem?

I have had reliability issues with the Barnul and the Brown Bear ammo in my AR :(

I guess I have to stick to brass case, the steel just does not consistently work for me. I wish it did due to price.

I shoot at steel targets all the time so I would stay with XM193 loads.
