I'd not held one of these until today, and then only for a short time with no working or break down involved. The guy behind the counter said for the price it was a solid performer and shooter. I know they're fairly new, but figured someone here would have one. Any first hand information, likes/dislikes would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I want the american classic. I had the chance to really look one over recently and came away very impressed for the askin of 500. Even STI is using Phillipino parts and frames.

Only in one model and only to give the average Joe a chance to own an STI.

Citadel is built by Armscor, who also makes RIA.

    Good guns.

    Not true.

Only the STI Spartan is built in the Philippines. Its more a case of STI suppling Armscor with small parts to complete this entry level gun.

STI doesn't build it or anything with Filipino parts.

STIs mid and higher end guns are built on STI frames and slides here in the states.

A friend has an officer 45ACP, and it's a good performer.

Just need to detail strip and clean it. Make sure you get the FP apart and see if there is grease or such in there.

Other than that, he had it in a class and shot 300+ rounds thru it without any issues. And it was in 45-degree outdoor weather.

I thought he had ran out of ammo near the end of the class.

that was Ryan, and he bought extra rounds from me. Richard bought 200rds from me the day before so he would have 550rds for the class.

Well, what I'm getting from the responses is that for the pricepoint, they are decent pistol's.
I knew you guys would have some information.
    Thanks!

Quack, did you have any failures during the class? I am seriously considering one of these. Peachstate Guns has them for $429 right now which means $400 tax if I go pick it up locally.

he had no failures during that class.

the only failure during his initial 100rds (the week before) was that the firing pin channel was full of shipping grease and was causing the firing pin to stick in the fired position, causing the firing pin stop to drop and hang up on the hammer. after it was cleaned out, he took it to the class the next weekend and fired 500rds w/o a problem.

Quack, what're the downsides to this pistol? As someone who owns several high end pistols where does it really fall short? I know fit and finish, and obviously it needs a flat trigger...but sounds really sweet so far; almost too good to be true.

I did some looking around and everything I read is positive. People seem to find the gun much more accurate than I'd ever be with it and no one said the safety fell off or anything. Is the frame steel? Cast I guess; does that really matter? Would this be a good frame/pistol to build on if I decided I really like the platform (1st 1911), or would y'all consider it too cheap to upgrade? Thanks.

Thanks Quack. I guess I'll head over there Monday morning before work and pick one out. I have been debating between this and a VZ-58. I'll get more use out of this I think.
