Danny's last post was Friday at 4PM and his state of VA was one of the hardest hit by Friday night's storms. Power in some of the Roanoke area may be out for a week. Verizon wireless and data services are down so even a smart phone (with Verizon) wouldn't help any.

I've e-mailed him, but that's likely an exercise in futility.

    Anyone else heard from him?

Not that I would have heard from him but I too noticed his absence. I hope everyone is OK. :worried:

I seem to recall that post now - thanks. Maybe he got out of Dodge before the storms hit.

Thanks for your concern. All are well. Storm Timeline:

    Friday 6/29--lost power around 8:30pm
    Saturday, 6/30--power restored around 4:45pm
    Tuesday, 7/03--Internet restored at 4:00pm

Some in Roanoke may be without power until 7/09/12. Daughter Karen is still without power, so she is staying here.

We live in the boonies, on well water. So, when the power goes out, so does the pump in my 310ft well, leaving us hot and dry, with only 2 flushes per toilet. Good think the lake is nearby, where I can draw buckets of water.

Temperature has stayed in the upper 90's, low 100's with high humidity. Presently experiencing a thunderstorm.

Personal losses--one red bud tree and a fridge full of food. We were very lucky. I have a deep cell marine battery to power my CPAP machine when power is out.

This happened about the same time last year. Fortunately, my Verizon cell phone never failed us.

It will take me a while to get caught up on E-mails and PM's.

Good to have you back, we all missed you.

And glad you didn't have major damage like some of the folks in your area.

Makes you appreciate all of the comforts of home, when you lose them.

    :wavey:

Wow. Tropical Storm Debby was blowing like mad all around me; water was rising all around me; the rain wouldn't stop for a week; but in the end I had no losses at all and no power outage. You actually faired worse than I did, just trying to mind your own business in the country. I'm assumimg that red bud didn't fall toward your house - or on top of it.

Glad to see you back. Remember, we need adult supervision around here.

Well, I'm only back until the 13th. My red bud is only about 10ft tall. Planted 3 in 2002 and am now down to 1.

We got hit pretty hard by the storm here in WV also. A lot of folks still have no power. Danny I am glad to hear you and yours are ok. I am lucky I live right next to our local locks and dam, lost my cable for ten minutes but that's about it. Hope everyone else is doing well, power should be returning by Friday to most our other friends hit by the storm.

Daughter Karen lives in Roanoke City, close to Hollins College. A high transmission power line is fried and she will not have power until Saturday.

Sorry to hear that Danny, I recently started working at the Cabelas that's opening in Charleston WV, we were selling generators today on the parking lot to try to help folks. Also FEMA is here reimbursing folks for lost food and generator costs I hear, may be worth looking into if your family or friends are on need of any assistance. Even if not hopefully it helps some folks, that storm hit some people hard.

    Glad your OK.
Give some thought to a Honda generator. I would suggest the eu6500is it has both 110 and 220 volts outlets, electric start and is very quiet. Have an electricion install a transfer box. It will be money well spent. It is no fun being with out water.
You can always sell it at a later date if you need to but you will have had the use of it in the mean time.

The Honda e6500is is actually an inverter it is supposed to be better on your electric motors and computers than a generator.
A regular generator can ruin your electronics.
A transfer box will allow you to pick the appliances you want on at the breaker box plus the line men will be great full not to have any power in a downed line.
Let me know what you decide.
I will always be glad to give you my $.02.
