Oh it does. In 1999 there were two maybe three movie studios there. Hollywood hadn't discovered this cash cow yet and it was a better time. Now every major studio, toy company, and video game maker is there plus TV studios and networks. Oh Comic companies too but rent keeps going up and the small guys squeezed out.

But you would be surprised by the actual real girls there that dress up and are hot as can be.

If I ever go to Comic Con, I'm cosplaying as Dalton Wayne.

They are fun. I've never been to the huge one on San Diego, but I have been to several in Texas.

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to just roam the floor, see art(some amazing, some crappy), talk to the comic guys, and people watch it can be a lot of fun.
If you want to go see the panels though, then you will probably have to sit in a line for a while to get in. The more popular the show the longer the line.

It was nice to see the whole cast of Firefly though

I go to the local ones when they come through. We had a "mini con" at a local mall a few weeks ago that was a lot of fun.

I am a genuine sci-fi nerd but I am not to the point of dress up and not much of a collector either, so I go as a voyeur who knows what is going on.

Been a couple times. It's fun people watching and wandering looking at stuff. More of the big panels are all tv/movie related. Some we wanted to go to you had to be in line at midnight for a 9am panel or something insane like that. Skipped anything that required camping out. It's fun times though. 4 days straight of it is a lot however and I'm ready to not be fighting thru crowds by then.

Always wanted to, but never got around to it.

I was in Seattle at the same time as last year's Emerald City Comicon, but didn't realize it until it was pretty much too late to buy tickets ... and one of my daughter's friends who normally works it wasn't working last year, so no vendor pass. Maybe next year.

I was going to this year's San Diego convention, but again, the guy I know who was going to get a couple passes from his friend, who normally works them, isn't working it this year. Go figure.

No, I wouldn't go in costume. That whole aging, grizzled Barbarian thing isn't working nowadays. :tongueout: Too bad, really, as it took time to earn the white hair in my goatee. I could try for the aging Han Solo or Malcolm Reynolds look ... except for the close-cropped (balding) hair. The Picard STTNG look would be ... boring, especially without the accent.

    Enjoy.

    Yeah, leather doesn't breathe.

Seems to work best in a limited supporting role, not as coverage. The skin needs exposure to breathe. :whistling:

I took my daughter to see a Britney Spears concert. We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton. Unbeknownst to us, the convention center associated with our hotel was hosting a Comic Con. My daughter was unprepared for a lobby full of wookiees and Boba Fetts, totally weirded her out.

I was going to take my FIL to the one in Chicago, but then I remembered that I don't like him. So I did not waste the money.

I'd go if I had the money, some of those people are pretty cool, and all the really fun girls go to conventions. And that I know from personal experience. ;)

Used to go to a sci-fi con every year, but it basically imploded right before I moved down to Texas. Haven't been to one since due to a lack of funds, but I'll go again when I can. I always found them to be pretty enjoyable. I might think different when I'm the one paying for the badge and the hotel room, but we'll see.
