Does anyone here have a Ruger Charger? I've been looking to add an auto loading 22 to my collection to compliment my bolt 22. I love my Marlin 22 bolt action. Its more accurate than I am and a joy to shoot.

For some reason the charger has piqued my interest as a squirrel gun for the back porch and a range toy. I can't put my finger on why but I think because it's something different. Anyone have any thoughts on this gun? Good? Bad? Just a plain dumb idea?

If this should be moved to rimfire forum please feel free to do so or please tell me how to do so.

It's like a 10/22 but shorter. Be careful with the 50-rounds drums. I have yet to find one that work worth a damn, even the supposedly well made Black Dog drum.

It's a relaxing gun to just sit and plink with. Right accurate.

    I hated mine.
You have to shoot it off a table/bench.

Too heavy to use as an actual pistol.

Interesting that you hated it. It seems to be the first I've heard mention of it. Any one else have thoughts about shooting it offhand with out a rest? I figured it would be possible but not necessarily comfortable.

Not a off hand shooter, too front heavy with the bi-pods...Definately a table top shooter...You will want a pistol scope, not a rifle scope...

Although it can be shot one handed that's not what it was designed for. That's why it comes with a bi-pod.

Two hand blasting from the hip is fun though.

Blasting from the hip in low light using a laser is especially fun.

I have one and added a Burris 3X AO handgun scope. It too shoots tiny groups like dnuggets. I shoot a lot of gophers and it is OK for that. I also own several Ruger 10-22 so it was a natural fit for me. As mention before you need to shoot it off a bench or in my case the hood of my truck.

A few years ago a buddy and I were shooting gophers in a rancher's hay field. A total rat infestation if there ever was one when the rancher came by to see how we were doing. I had the Ruger Charger set up on my hood when my buddy asked the owner if he ever shot a handgun at gophers. He said he ever did. After we showed him how to use the extend eye relief scope he shot three out of three in a row. All one shot kills.

If you want a 22 pistol than buy a 22 pistol. If you want something different just for grins and giggles then buy the Charger.

Really like mine after replacing the crappy extractor and trigger. Mine with a 2x7 TC scope keeps them in one ragged hole at 50yds and nice groups at 100yds.
