School me on entry level metal detectors. I dont want to spend much more than $200 or $250. Can you get a decent one for that price?

My Wife got me one for my birthday (last October).. I REALLY want to get out and learn to use it, but I just haven't found the time yet.

I just dusted off my Tesoro Lobo SuperTraq. While I paid $700 for it, a guy with a $250 detector that knows his machine and is familiar with it can run circles around me.

The key is to use it frequently and learn how to use it effectively.

I recently wrote an article for American Digger magazine about gold panning. They specialize in metal detecting but are awash in writers and articles on relic hunting using metal detectors...

The interest now is skyrocketing in detecting and you should be able to find some great deals on used quality machines in your local craigslist...

I keep reading its not about the price but making sure you're familiar with your equipment and knowing how to use it
