Mas,

I realize that you're not a fan of "What if?" questions, so I will keep this one very simple -

I have always seen certain types of knives (Such as Emerson knives with the "Wave" feature) as a last ditch 'get off me' switch, but I've had concerns about how to defend the use of a knife in court. In a situation like Zimmerman's, can you offer any advice on how to defend (in court) the use of a knife over a gun?

In theory, deadly weapons are deadly weapons and, presuming each is within its range, the gun and the knife should be treated equally. Historically, there has been some tendency for society to see the gun as the weapon of the lady and gentleman, and the knife as the weapon of the thug.

However, "why you carried a knife" is easier to explain from the witness stand than from the grave.

best,
Mas
