I'm a Hold Em fan. I play online with play money. Play small games for cash with friends. Wanted to try some small cash games online. But it's illegal or something?

Anybody from the US play cash games online? Where? How does that all work?

You used to be able to.

I put $100 into PokerStars.com a few years back. Got it up to $350 then lost it.

The U.S. Government sued them and all the other sites. U.S. players can't play online anymore. At least not at a "legit" site.

Go to PokerStars and read what they have to say about it:
    http://www.pokerstars.com/

The IRS got their panties in a bunch as they weren't getting any taxes from the winnings. Even though you gotta jump through hoops to deduct your losses (what most people do).

    F the IRS.

Online poker isn't illegal. At best it's a gray area. Online betting of sports (excluding horses) is illegal, but they rarely go after the betters. Casino games like craps, etc. I'm unsure of. I think it is legal. Possibly another gray area.

Having said that, getting money on is trickier than it used to be. I haven't played in years and a lot of the major sites stopped allowing US cash players. You can still find some out there though. They're not necessarily less legit. Just possibly less popular which means it's possible they could go bankrupt and you lose your money.

Maybe check twoplustwo.com for sites that are US friendly that won't take your money.

I simply cannot fathom anyone who puts cash money into any "online" poker game or video game. Do you REALLY think you are playing poker? REALLY?

If you want to play cards for money, find a game in your area. Sit at a table and gamble the cards and odds. Don't supply cash funds for a programmer.
