I recently acquired a Surefire forend/light for my 590A1. I had a heck of a time removing the stock forend from the action slide tube assembly. I had to resort to using a hammer to knock it out, and in turn, damaged the threads on the end of the tube and now I can't get the action nut back on. Should a gunsmith be able to re-thread or somehow fix this? A replacement unit runs a little over $70.

At this point I suggest you purchase the new part and call Brownells and order the $15 fore-end wrench. It is always a good idea to have the right tool on hand. It will be worth it.

    Learn to shop around.

Havlin Sales has the action slides for $28 or $46 depending upon which length you need.

    New nut is another $12.
