Well, you all got me thinking. I have a base model Mercedes, and since I have loads of taxpayer money to spend I'm looking close at a new vehicle. (I don't want to do something useful with my money, like invest it.)

2008 Cadillac CTS. I could trade in my Benz and only owe a legit 12,500 or so. The good thing is I'm not in a hurry to sell, so if they didn't offer me a good deal I'd just walk.

Anyway, it doesnt have to be a specific car. Thats just an example. Whats the deal with the CTSs? Any good? I'm in my early 20s by the way, are these old people cars?

My Dad-in-law has a new 2013 CTS (no V). He's old people 'cause I'm old people. It's a nice ride but I wouldn't buy a 5 year old CTS. Too many annoying little electro-gizmos going south all at once. It's like death by a thousand paper cuts.

My older brother and his wife only drive Caddies, he swears by them. He drives the new crossover SUV and his wife has the big sedan, both a couple of years old. I like them but I would be hesitant on a 4 year old one with all the eletronic bells and whistles that might start acting up. Like another poster said, if it was a V then I would be contacting them tonight (I am about 20 miles from there).

    Good luck

My mom's last 3 cars were an 03, 06, and 09 CTS. Never any real issues with any of them I don't think. I drove the 09 quite a bit. Even with the base engine and suspension, it drove and handled very well. NAV system would freeze up a few times a year, just had to turn off and back on. I'm a big fan of them.

    Of course, I'd prefer a V wagon, but I'd definitely rock a V6 with a manual.

When I was a kid, Mom had a new 83 Eldorado. THAT was an old person's car. The CTS, not so much.

I'd pass. The 3.6 has a history of timing chain issues. Also a history of Gizmo problems.

On a side note, $25,000 seems high for an almost 5 year old CTS.

WRONG. My 04 has been rock solid and has been raced and ran hard. Not a single electro gizmo problem since I have owned it.

Also not true. With the number of 3.6s on the road I would bet that the percentage of problems of the 3.6 are also VERY low.

All the guys talking about getting a V in that age range and price are way off base. A new V is 60k+. An 09 was also in the neighborhood of 60k. You arent touching a second gen V for under 40k (09 or newer).

They really are great cars and have won countless awards. The CTS certainly is not an old person car. With the right package it will handle like you wouldnt beleive. The DI 3.6 is 305hp which is nothing to scoff at. I dont know what kind of deals the 09s are going for so I dont know if the one you listed is a great deal.

Go out and drive one and see if you like it. If you still like the Euros better there is nothing wrong with that. Benz and BMW are also great cars obviously!

My wife has a 2005 CTS. It's the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen.

Not only that the dealer sucks. We had to put a new engine in at 35,000.

    Google "CTS oil consumption".

Never buy an American car, NEVER

I thought so too but edmunds lists dealer retail at 29k (assuming I got the options right).

My wife has a 2011 (lease) CTS and it has never needed to be returned for the dealer except for the regular maintenence.
Beautiful car with navigation, sunroof, etc.
Since she's had that car the Corvette has been collecting dust except for me washing it and taking it on one rally.

This is the guy who started a thread a little while back about leaving his wife and moving to Thailand to become a taxi driver and bang underage (in the US) chicks.
