According to a story at WND today, there was once (circa 1949) a scraggly black and white stray found in Hong Kong, who became adopted as the ship's cat of Royal Navy vessel HMS Amethyst. This ship sailed up the Yangtze River from Shanghai to Nanking to protect the British embassy during China's civil war (too bad Hillary didn't study this bit of history before her Benghazi debacle. She could have learned about courage and responsibility from this cat). Simon the cat suffered severe shrapnel wounds and burns after then ship's cabin was hit by a shell, which killed Lt. Commander Skinner, during a 101-day Chicom siege. Simon fought through his pain, licked his wounds, and survived. He continued to rid the ship of rodent vermin, which threatened the short food supplies. The men were on strict rations during the long, hot months of the siege. Simon was best known for killing a rat the sailors nicknamed Mao Tse Tung, after the communist leader. Simon, the ship and crew made a daring escape as the Amethyst limped downriver under cover of darkness. Simon was given the rank of Able Seaman.
