I went to the LGS today just for something to do and ended up walking out with a Colt Detective Special. The problem is, I took my wife out shooting with me this afternoon and she now wants my new gun. :crying: She did shoot rather well with it though.

    Sorry for the crappy pic.

Very nice. I like the DS as it gives you six shots vs 5 in a very slightly larger package.

It makes for a very handy OWB or IWB carry revolver.

Only problem is the cylinder latch moves in the wrong direction:tongueout:

I passed on a nice one several years ago and have regretted it ever since.

I haven't seen one since that was in good condition. I still see them but they are usually beat to death.

    A nickel plated Detective Special!!!

I'm green with envy. All of mine are blued with the exception of the stainless steel DSII.

Thanks. This was the first one that I have seen locally. I was on my way out the door when the gunsmith hailed me over to ask if I was going to attend the Action Pistol match next month. This little revolver just happened to be in the case that he was standing behind. This was a totally spontaneous buy.

I'm pretty sure that she will end up with this gun. After seeing how much she enjoyed shooting it I can hardly refuse. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I wasn't in the dog house for buying it in the first place considering that our 21st anniversary is this week.

It's hard to tell from the pic but it is in decent shape, a little dulling of the nickel on a couple of the cylinder flats. I'm guessing from laying on its side since there is no wear on the muzzle from holstering. The cylinder locks up tight with no end shake and it gave me solid primer strikes even with CCI primers. I looked up the serial number and it showed that this gun left the factory in 1975.

Mine is 1974. I do have an older early 1960s one and a DSII that was probably made in the early 1990s.

I have a DS that looks like yours except I added some Secret Service boot grips that I love.

Nice new Colt. Fighting over firearms with your spouse is really not a bad thing. You're very lucky. Congrats to both of you!
