Hello Mas, you often tout the Federal 9bp 9mm cartridge as being street proven. Is it just as as effective when fired from a 3.5'' barrel glock 26 or 3'' barrel kahr pm9 as it has been from longer barrels? I'd also like to hear your thoughts on how modern 147gr 9mm (hst, ranger, gold dot) compare to the old FBI load 158gr 38 special +p in their performance. Thanks Mas.

Back when LASD issued the 9BP, they had a lot of deputies carrying 3.5" S&Ws off duty and in plainclothes, and I heard no complaints about the round's performance. They now have 147 grain Ranger subsonic, and are very satisfied with it.

Ranger, HST, etc. 147 grain high-tech subsonic hollow points are indeed very close to ".38 FBI load" performance levels. The older 147 JHP subsonics, with plain copper jacketed lead bullets, were supposed to do that in theory, but didn't always do so in the field.
