Now how is a nine year old kid going to raise a single mom if dad gets the custody? :whistling:

I can see almost see my kid do that.

She got Early Onset Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and ADHD/ADD.

Earlier this week she had a 4-hour long fight with my wife about doing a 10-minute homework with ended when she kicked my wife in the face almost fracturing the jaw. She has also threaten to hit her beloved grandmother who is visiting. Two days ago she had to be taken out of school for trying to physically attack the Assistant Principal.

    She's eight.

One of the symptoms for Bipolar Disorder is a decreased need for sleep (in the manic phase). I have caught my daughter making a schedule in her notebook for what she will be doing between 9pm and 6am instead of sleeping.

In any case, I don't know if mental health disorder is the case here or just bad parenting.

Wow, I don't know what to say other then I wish you the best with your daughter. Maybe some new drug or therapy will come along and make things better.

I was married to a woman with Bi-Polar Disorder, and now that you mention it, when she was in her manic stage she was up all night too. You are right, maybe this kid has it.

My brother used to be married to a daughter of Satan who would nowadays almost certainly be diagnosed as having Bipolar disorder and Oppositional Defiant disorder (which are just lame names they made up to sell drugs that make kids worse more often than better). I still think she was simply evil-minded because that's the way she was raised, and that's the kind of people she was raised by. She just mimicked the general character of her parents and the things she saw them do. Their behavior at home taught her to think that it's normal to hurt other people just for the fun of hurting someone.

I also have a much younger cousin who was just about as bad during his childhood, but in his case I think it was caused by the fact that his parents went too far in their effort to prove that they were the most kind & loving parents in the world. There was virtually no discipline, ever, so naturally he thought he was the rightful king of the universe by the time he was five, and he never understood why nobody but his mom & dad wanted to follow his royal commands.

Going too far in either direction screws a kid up real good. If I'd have raised either one of them I'll bet they'd have grown up to be totally different.

Is that the same thing we used to call, "doesn't mind because her punishment is 'time-out'" syndrome?

Swiper, I'm sorry to hear about that. It must be difficult to live with. As for these other yahoos, pay them no attention for they know not what they don't know.

As a former co-worker of mine used to say regarding stuff like this:

She needed someone to whoop her azz when she got out of line.

That girl needs her azz whooped with a 2x4 or a baseball bat.

Are you hinting that beating the child somehow miraculously would cure her?

It's difficult to live with and only seems to get worse. Yesterday she had an appointment with both her psychiatrist and her social worker. They both agreed that she was in her high manic state with high risk for self-harm and needed to be readmitted to the childrens' mental clinic. She fought it so bad that a security guard had to escort her in an ambulance to the clinic and once there she was put in a 'padded solitary cell' until she was able to calm down.

I guess that some of the yahoos on this forum will say that it's my fault for having "spared the rod." :dunno:
