I read that the latest magazine followers for the 40's are the #8. I may be a little behind on the news as I tend to be sometimes but my two new 40's have #9 followers. My gen 4 G23 bought in 12/2010 with test fire date of 09/2010 has #9's. My new gen 3 G27 which was a Christmas present last month with test fire date 12/02/2011 also has #9 followers.

The #9 followers have been around for about a year now, maybe a little longer. They're slightly wider on the part that engages the slide stop, that extra width may prevent them from rising fully in a magazine tube that came with a #6,7,8 follower. The newest magazine tubes that come with #9 followers have been modified slightly to be wider in that area, allowing the #9 follower to rise fully in the magazine tube.

I wouldn't put #9 followers in your magazines that came with #6,7,8 followers just to get the latest version. You may have to shave some plastic off of the #9 follower to get it to rise fully in those magazine tubes. I have plenty of .40 magazines that work just fine with #8 followers.

If you put a #9 follower in a magazine tube that came with followers #6,7,8 and it doesn't rise fully, you may experience failures of the slide to lock back. You'll see a rub mark on the corner of the portion of the follower that engages the slide stop, and you can shave that portion down where the rub mark appears to make it work properly in that magazine tube.

Voyager know of which he speaks. I replaced all of my newer #.2 mag tubes, that came with #.9 followers with #.8's.
I also shaved my #.2 mag tubes, per Voyarer's instructions and put Wolff Magazine spring along with the #8 followers I now have perfectly functioning magazines.
My wish is Glock would quit improving somethings that work perfectly the way they are. SJ 40

So I called Glock this last summer because I wanted my #6 followers updated to the newest ones. They did it for free but they gave me #8s. I thought 8 was the newest...

I don't plan on putting #9 followers in any other tube. If I have to replace the older ones it will be with 8 follower. I just hadn't heard of the #9 follower until I saw mine.

Where is the number stamped on the mag follower to know which it is? I am looking on them right now and the only numbers found are the .40/10 (because it's a 10 round mag in NY state - it sucks) and there's a 1 on the very tip where the head of the bullet would sit

The 10-round magazines have a different follower, I don't know how many versions there have been.

The numbers are located where you are looking at the #1.

Bump! I also noticed that on my G22 mags with #9 followers, the witness holes in the back to see the cartridges are staggered instead of being level. Maybe that's old news, but I found it mildly interesting :)

... was searching for dialog on mag follower numbers and found this thread... i have a bunch of pre ban (full metal/square back notch/drop free) mags all with #4 or #5 followers that function great. i also have 1 pre ban G23 mag with a #8 follower and i have failure to feed trouble ...

    1. could the trouble be the #8 follower in the old/preban mag ???
    2. any guesses where i could get some #4 or #5 followers??

    thanks for the help!
