I purchased a new 870P a month or so and something about the barrel and receiver caught my eye. The barrel doesn't seem to fit flush in the receiver, so I checked it against my other three 870's, all of those fit flush. The other three are Wingmasters that are at least 10-20 years old. It operates fine, but I was wondering if this was the norm of the newer 870's. Check out the pics in the link below and let me know what y'all think.

Looked at you pictures and not sure what issue you are refering to. What are you wanting flush? If you are refering to the barrel root being flush with the the ledge in the reciever then no, that is not an issue. You have sporting type barrels in your Wingmasters and an 18.5" tactical type barrel on your P model. That would be the only difference I could guess at but there is no issue here.

Thanks for the info. I swapped the barrels around and the Wingmaster's barrel root was flush in the Police receiver, but the 18.5" barrel still protruded in the Wingmaster's receiver, so it is the barrel. Like I said in the other post, it operates fine, just looks different than my others.

    Thanks again.............sd550
