I want a forward barrel lug like winchester and mossberg has on certain models to support a full length magazine, but I want the forward lug on my 870. How difficult would it be to weld on a forward lug on an 870 barrel?

It is not recommended to weld on your barrel as the heat can cause damage. Even brasing is not recommended. Any number of barrel brackets will support any tube extension you put on it so altering the weapon is not needed.

It seems to me you are attempting to correct a problem that does not exsist and may very well be creating ones that do.
