So I finally found an old 870 wingmaster with a 18.5 HD barrel. The barrel is marked 2 3/4 and I have a ton of 3" at the house that I would like to use. So is it possiable to get a 3" marked barrel to use.

There are plenty of 3" chambered 870 barrels availible. Swapping barrels on a 870 is a piece of cake.

You'll need the long ejector if it's a 2 3/4"receiver and it's not already installed.

A 3" barrel will do the trick but only to a degree. As El Ron Duderino said, the receiver is only set up for 2 3/4" and you'll have to have that changed for full and complete functioning. Your friendly aippi can easily do that mod for you.

The post is either confusing or my knowledge is. If the barrel is marked 2 3/4" only then it is an 18" barrel. If the barrel is 18.5" then it is a 3" chambered barrel and should be marked so. that is because the 2 3/4" barrels are from back when Remington barrels were 18". All the 18.5" barrels are 3".

I can not change the ejector without refinishing the receiver unless a guy will accept uneven rivets that are cold blued. The rivets have to be ground down and that of course damages the finish on the receiver. So I don't recommend spending several hundred dollars on a new barrel and receiver work just to fire 3" shells. If you just have to fire 3" shells then sell the Wingmaster and get a 3" 870 or deal with the cosmetic issue.

PS. My home town is J-ville and I am a Jags fan but something better happen this year or I bail.

OK, good to know I'll probably end up picking up another gun then. And yes the jaguars suck.
