Anyone tried/shot these things? I seen them on a guns&ammo tv show the other night and thought that might be cool. I'm not even sure if they are civilian legal but would like to get some feedback on them.

look up http://www.saodind.com He has some .490 SAOD uppers that will shoot .50b's as well and i have shot a few and they are beasts. He has a really nice brake he designed that does a really great job of taming it. Love to see what that round would do to a whitetail.

.50 BEOWULF FTMFW! Whats better than having a huge round out of a nimble AR? You can build em or buy em now a days and ammo isn't too hard to find.

Why would they not be legal? Take any standard AR lower and put their upper on it. Good to go. Ammo is around $29.00 for 20 rounds though.

It is my understanding that Alexander makes both the upper and the ammo for the .50. I did find that Cabelas is stocking the ammo now. Not sure if they are doing the same with the uppers.

I believe that currently alexander arms is the designer and only manufacturer of the .50 beowulf and I believe that it is proprietary to alexander arms which is part of the reason there aren't more .50 beowulfs out there.

This is mine and it is actually my only AR platform rifle. It recoils like a 12 gauge shotgun without a break and a 20 gauge with a break. I'm planning to put a break on mine when I get some spare cash.

The only down side to this firearms is that the brass is not cheap it runs around $.60 a piece for new virgin brass from starline who is the only maker. Once fired brass is next to impossible to come by, if you buy a beowulf you should go ahead and buy 250-1000 casings for $182-$550.

I would definitely suggest annealing your brass after a while. The other good thing is that the beowulf fires at a relatively low pressure, so it should be good on brass, I've only loaded mine 2-3 times so far.

A friend of mine put his .50 upper on a full auto lower. Wish I had been there for that. Said it was like a full auto 45-70. They each fired one burst and then took the upper off.

I LOVE the Beowulf. Very fun to shoot with awesome short range power. I would put the recoil in the same ballpark as a 20 ga. shotgun, but it is pretty smooth (there is some bleed off from the gas operation) and recoils straight rearward, as ARs do, so it is quick on follow up shots. My experience has been that if you give it to someone who has not fired it and don't say anything about recoil, they start whining about how much they miss their .22 AR conversion kit. However, if you give it to someone and tell them to treat it like a 12 ga. (even though it does not recoil anywhere near as much as a 12 ga.) they will absolutely love it! This is my favorite rifle, but the Alexander Arms 6.5 Grendel is no slouch either!
