Hey all I got a brand new wilson 47D for my new SR1911. The gun has been flawless thus far but it will not feed or return to battery with the 47D. If it strips one off the top, the slide wont close all the way and it jams up pretty good, as in, it takes effort to rack the side and clear the jam. Any ideas? FWIW, I tried it with critical defense which feeds fine from the ruger mags. :wavey:

Maybe your gun doesn't like Wilson mags, them's the facts of life. Try another brand or stick with the Ruger factory mags.

Some guns are finicky about which aftermarket mags they'd operate with.

You mean to tell us that the Wilson isn't the magazine to end all magazines?
Well let me tell you I am just shocked!

    Sarcasm out the of way.
That's just the way some things are. It's a toss up if they will work with Springfields too.
I have several of them, and they work in two out of three on my SA's.

They wouldn't do anything but toss live rounds out of them with another 1911.

My experience with 1911 magazines is this.
I have played with numerous brands over the years and now have a 50 caliber ammo can full of mags. I have found that with the M1911 its best to go with the simplest magazines that work. That is why I have a ton of Metalform magazines.

You can get them for about 10 a piece and they work.
What I would recommend though is for you to determine what magazines came with your Ruger and buy those. To think a gun has to have a magazine that costs an arm and a leg is just a fallacy.

The 47Ds are mandatory at BBQs though

I disagree. That's what nickel plated Mec-Gar is for.

    Yeah, Me too. LOL

I am still new to 1911's and was always pointed towards the 47D's as the end all be all best magazine. Oh well, live and learn. I think I will order a few more Ruger mags.

I'll have to try one of my Wilson mags in my SR1911.

That sucks, I never had a problem with my 47D's in my SR1911. If you want 8 rounders I would just order some factory Ruger 8 rounders that came with the gun.

That's probably best. Stick with what works for you.

The Wilson magazines aren't bad magazines. They aren't the best either. What they do have going for them is name.

Cheap, out of spec mag body.

I've had the BEST luck with,

    McCormick Power Mags
    Tripp Research
    Mec-Gar
    Colt
    Springfield

    Yes, in THAT order.

The SR1911 magazine with the pad is the same mag that came with my Valor which is made by Checkmate.

No problems with my 47D mags in my SR1911 but I do prefer the WC Elites over the 47Ds at this point for the stronger spring, stronger body and better base pad.

I had an Ultra Carry that didn't like the 7rd WC officer mags that are basically a shorter 47D, but ran fine with everything else including full size mags.

Interesting, My UCII likes the 7rd WC better than the Kimber tac mags. It also likes the 47D.

What's funny is my original Ultra Carry I mentioned liked the 47Ds and Kimpros Tacs but not the shorter WC officer mags. I tried 6 different WC officer mags too and it was the only type that caused feeding problems. Sometimes, I swear these 1911s have their own personality. :whistling:
