I have been thinking about a 45 Super conversion from Ace Custom. The ballistics are impressive, 185 grn JHP at 1300 fps and 230grn JHP at 1200 fps.
What do you think about the 45 Super as to defense and defendability in court?

Should be a most effective defense round on the receiving end, though I don't know personally of an actual shooting with it. Recoil will be pretty snappy.

I was very happy with the way my .45 Super from Ace Custom, done on a Smith & Wesson 4506, turned out. I'm sure you'll be happy with yours, too.

We occasionally find an argument that "he used too powerful a weapon," as seen classically in the prosecution of Harold Fish. (Archive search here at GT should turn up substantial commentary on that.) The defense you would use, which should have been used in the Fish case IMHO, is that the more powerful gun allows you to end a lethal opponent's violence more quickly, and also with fewer gunshot wounds, which at least arguably may be less lethal to the perpetrator who forces you to shoot him to make him stop the evil he is committing.
