Looks like Glock must have a significant inventory of G38 models for LE purchase.
I received my Gen 3 G38 yesterday (GSSF 2011 purchase), and it was test fired back on 7/16/2007. Came as a surprise to me. Pistol came from Spokane, WA distributor.
    Couple of interesting features -
    1. the trigger bar has the "hump" like the Gen 4 pistols, and
    2. The front sight is the old stake-on type.
Maybe the Gap's have always had that type of trigger bar, I don't know. I'm sure Danny would.

One question - can you replace the stake-on front sight with a screw-on?? In other words will the hole in the slide take the screw-on sight?

Other than the suprises mentioned above, I'm looking forward to shooting this gun. Got lots of reloading supplies for it so next year will shoot it in the Heavy Metal category in the GSSF shoots.

Yes, the front stake on sight can be removed and one that mounts with a screw as a replacement. I have the Heinie 320 Combo on both my G37 and G38 Glocks. Gotta love a good Glock. I want the Gen 4 G38 when it is released.

The GAP trigger bars have always had that hump. The New Gen4's use the same trigger bar.

Be prepared to be spoiled. The G38 is my all time favorite Glock, and I will be getting a Gen4 as soon as they become available.

Any idea when the Gen 4 G38's might come out? If they have a large inventory of Gen 3 guns it might be a while. Maybe the inventory is just here in the PNW.
I believe that the gun store owner told me the distributor had over a dozen G38's available when he was checking to order. Of course they had NO G17's, G26, etc available at this time.

I'm hoping by February or March 2012.

    I carry a G38 as my primary carry/duty pistol. It's a good package.
