Greetings, My friend & I tested some rounds using Hornady's 225g FTX "Leverevolution" bullet, shot through a S&W .44 mag w/8 3/8" barrel, mounted red dot scope. I just wanted to post our results. Hornady tested this bullet with a Ruger Redhawk w/7 1/2" barrel. Tested Friday 7/27/12, sunny & 85 degrees with no more than a 5-7 mph wind. Case - Hornady Case length - 1.260" (trimed to) Bullet - 225g FTX LEVERevolution (Hornady) Bullet length - .850' DIA - .430" Primer - Winchester WLP Powder - Alliant 2400 @ 15.5g Burn rate #54 (Hodgdon) OAL - 1.645" Velocity - 1,168.5 fps (average 5 shot) Standard Deviation - 27.03701 Accuracy test at 30-60 & 90 yards. 5 rounds fired from a bench/gun rest position and 5 rounds from a standing free hand position. All test rounds fired perfectly with the charge weight of 15.5g giving us the best all around preformance. Fired from this "Hand cannon" this round was not difficult to control with moderate kick/recoil, and surprisingly reacquisition was fairly quick. Since I have never owned a .44 mag, this first effort was not only fun to test/shoot but I think I just may have learned something as well. Alan Wanna kill these ads? We can help!
