Your thoughts? These 3 all run about $1k. Looking for feedback, not "if it ain't .45 rants..." and "small 1911s suck" opinions.

Springfield EMP - seems to be the gold standard, as it was designed for the 9mm. However, it would require some mods to get it just right. No ambi, and flat baseplates. Also has no FS checkering. I believe 8+1 with flat baseplate.

STI Escort - AL frame, carbon steel 3" slide and only 22oz. Already no ambi, flat baseplates, and FS done. Only 1 mag and 7+1.

STI Guardian - similar to the Escort, but stainless so heavier at 32oz. 3.9" barrel. Also no ambi, flat baseplates, one 7+1 magazine.

Out of the 3 I like the Guardian the best... seems to me to be the most bang for the buck.. no ambi, all steel, front strap is scalloped. Also it has the lowest MSRP out of the bunch... I would get it in a .45.. but for what you are looking for I think the Guardian is the ticket..

    I want a EMP bad! For some reason I can't justify spending only $1k on a 1911... :)

EMP, because it's designed around the 9mm.

i believe the Escort weight listed is w/o a mag, while the EMP weight is listed with a mag.
the EMP holds 1-2 more rounds.

another thing that you are forgetting is that the EMP is comes with night sights, while the other don't (standard), so add another $100 to those.

as for mags, since the STI's use standard style mags, you have to find some that work well with it, where as the EMP mags are only made by Springfield. so less chance of issues there.

I didn't mention sights because I would change them out regardless to a 10-8 rear to match my Brown. All other good points though. Thanks dude.

still with the EMP, you just have to replace the rear, while with the STI's you have to buy the front which is about $50 alone.

Yeah, but with the EMP there's also ditching the ambi and mag baseplates. Not a huge deal, but a little extra cost nonetheless. Man, I wish they did the FS too. Not a dealbreaker, but for $1k+ it should have been done.

Sombody on here has a bobtailed Dan Wesson Commander sized 9mm with a lightweight frame. It looked like the best thing out there to me.

Yeah it's Don. I REALLY like the Guardian but $1,400 is more than I want to spend.

he doesn't want to spend $1400 on it, even though it would match his KC.

if he does the cost, of the other guns, changes and add in another VMII holster, the price is getting pretty close.

I may have to do that. Everyone speaks so highly I STI, just giving them a look. I know I like the EMP having shot yours.

Didn't even think about the VM2 part of the equation. That makes REALLY good sense now.

yep, even if it's not the VMII a similar holster would cost about the same.

and with the bobotail, you can get 9rds flush fit, full grip, and since it's commander size you'd probably shoot it more than the Officer size gun. The only change that you would need on the Guardian would be the rear sight.

and you'll have a training partner for your KC.

Have you considered the STI LS? Under $1K and with last shot lock now that they dropped the .40 version. My understanding is it was built around the shorter cartridges as well. I considered it hard several years ago and came down to the LS or a PM9 (went with the PM9).

Honestly, with the KC coming. I dont know why you arent just going after a full size. Your going to be getting a gun dedicated to carry, so get yourself a fun gun, and then when funds are good again; then go after another cc gun.
