Went out on a solo trip this morning. Didn't leave the house until 0730 and it was a nice 19F and no wind. Set up in a field that we had never called before but the property owners said they see coyotes in the field all the time.

Set up under a big oak and started out with DSG Cottontail. About 5 min in I changed to Baby Cottontail. It had only played for about a min and I heard movement coming from behind me to the right. This big male dog trotted right past me about 20 yards out, keyed in on the JIB and the FX3. He got about 10 yards from the call and knew he had been had. He turned and started off and I let him run into the glass and I gave him a WOOF and he stopped 50 steps out. The 75 gr V-Max made short work out of him. Not even a twitch.

Made two more stands and not a thing. The wind came up from the West on the last stand and was blowing in my face. It was only about a 15 min stand. I was cold. It had warmed up to 21F when I got back to the truck. That is cold for us rednecks. :crying: :whistling:

Nice job. I assuming with the 75gr V-max you are using a .243? How is the pelt damage?

It is a 25-06. As long as you don't hit any bone there is no exit. But if it does exit it is bad. The 243 with the 75 gr does a nice job too. My suggestion is if you want a pelt gun don't use the 25-06. Get a .204 or .223.

    Nice one.

When it all comes together coyote hunting is a real heart thumper.
