.243 deer loads?

    Thinking about getting my son a .243 for christmas and looking into what I should get him ammo wise. Anyone know a good place to get .243 brass or should I just buy some factory ammo to get started and reload it as we go? Thinking about the 95 or 100gr bullets, something like a partition to ensure it stays together in deer size game? Any ideas?

    Hornady 100gr. .243. Excellent choice. My kid loves it.

    I've used the Nosler 100gr Partition over 42gr IMR4350. Note that this load is now considered over max in some reloading manuals. It is most definitely a lethal load.

    The Hornady (or other quality brand) 100 grain spire points will give very good results.

    Another awesome bullet for deer in the .243 is the 95 grain Nosler ballistic tip.

    Years ago I used the 100grn. Nosler to good effect, too. My reload was built around H4831. Excellent steam and velocity.

    These days I just run into Walmart and buy a box or two of 100grn. Remington Core Lokts. A lot less muss & fuss and they perform just about as well.

    I load the 95 grn partition with a mid charge of H-4350 for deer. If your a reloader I'd just buy some new brass & go from there. What fun is it to buy loaded ammo?
