    Hi guys,

I'm thinking of buying a 22 rifle for plinking, with also a view of seriously dressing it up.

What could be a good brand? My research tells me that the ruger 10/22 is quite popular; it is said to be durable and reliable, and with many affordable after-market upgrades and accessories (in the US, at least).

I plan to make a worthwhile project out of this. I see a good opportunity to start it this coming gunshow.

I kindly seek your opinions and suggestions.

    A good day to all.

    Maraming salamat,
    MAO.

Are you planning to buy a regular 10/22 or a Target model?

Butler Creek sells aftermarket high capacity mags for it. They also sell barrels as well as 10/22 stocks. Clark Custom Guns and Volquartsen offer trigger kits, barrels, scope mounts, and stocks.

Check out the CZ 452 bolt action. Nothing but positive reviews on the internet forums. Like an Anschutz but at a third of the cost. I bought one and I am very happy with it. I had a Ruger 10/22 before. A good gun but being a semi-automatic is not very accurate out of the box.

    Another vote for the 10/22.

Other rifles maybe more accurate but not so much fun.

My vote goes to Ruger 10/22. With a polished hammer (home trigger job), I can hit marble sized targets all day long without cleaning. Of course it really is dirty after 500 rounds!

    Mang Danny,

Is there a website or a link for the 10/22 home trigger job, or did you just do it yourself? What scope did you mount on the rifle?

    Thanks!

i was told by my gunstore that have to options:

any of you guys had experience with them? any comments (pros/cons)??

    TIA

Many thanks for the feedback guys.

Further research in other fora made me drool over the dolled-up 10/22s, specifically the porn at rimfirecentral.

I wonder though if such accessories/upgrades are available in the philippines. Also, what scopes are best for the 22 rifle?

    Magandang araw,
    Mao.

I remember during the last gun show that Trust Trade was selling a dressed up 10/22. I don't know about the specific hardware but it did sport a s/s bull barrel, a laminated thumbhole stock, scope and bipod. Ran for about 75k.

Re the scope, I suggest you get one with an adjustable parallax, or one with a parallax set at 50 yards. HTH

I believe scope is the only dress up you can do on a Remington.
I have a bolt action Marlin and accurate at 50 yds with the right ammo.

    Isuzu,
I just polished the sharp edges and surfaces of the hammer engagement areas. More tips from "www.rimfirecentral.com". My scope is Simmons 3-9X 32 mm. with Weaver see-thru rings, bought from a specialty store called Wal-Mart. ;)

    Taurus,
75K for a 10-22?? Ala eh, presyo na nang AR-15 dito yan !

    Vega,
Swabe ba ang bolt action mechanism nang Marlin? Kumusta naman ang finish nung stock?

Thanks, Mang Danny! I'll definitely look into the scope set up and improving the 10/22's trigger pull. I'll be taking my non-restricted firearms course in August, and I'll be buying a 10/22.

BTW, is the trigger pull of the Standard 10/22 different from the Target 10/22?

I'll also be checking if our Wal-Mart sells scope rings here. Iba ang rules dito sa Canada. They used to sell firearms at Wal-Mart stores here.

Remington have corrected this with the new magazine. If you have the old one just send it back and they will replace with the new one.

In time the action will be smooth. When I first got it the stock looks like plastic finish. With lots of handling nag-mukhang kahoy din.
