Still working out, started my solar system plan, made and stored 200 rds of .357 magnum. Cleaned out my food prep storage area and updated my list of medical supplies I need, dental and burns at the top of the list.
As practice media, they should be fine. I have wanted a vacuum sealer for a while. I think it would be nice for packing meals for regular use and maybe if I get back into hunting.....
I just packed up some more gauze pads. It really compresses the pile. I am thinking of placing a strip of gorilla tape on each packet so I can at least roll up the open end and tape the flap shut.
Set up the dentist for Monday and surgery for Thursday. Getting old is the pits! It is part of survival. I have two brothers about the same age. One had his surgery last week. The other is waiting for a date.
I found a 25-gallon tote of empty brass that I'd forgotten about. One of those 'meant to be' things imo, as I've been debating whether or not to update my loading press for the last couple weeks. Made it an easier decision to spend the money, seeing that additional brass setting there.
In my searchings on presses, risers and mounts, I discovered the "ultramount" line frominlinefabrication.com . Looks interesting as a way to both raise the level of a press and allow for easy & convenient swapping out of presses on the same mount.
bought another handheld ham radio, purchased a slightly larger get home bag to hold additional gear if need be. Cut some more wood for winter now that it's actually getting cold and snowy, looking for a small piece of land with lots of trees to build a future cabin on....
Got a holster in, bianchi carry lock for my xd9. But also figured out my USP fits my xd tuckable holster so I carried it last night at work.the carry lock only set me back 20 bucks, including shipping.
Melted my first lead for eventual bullet-casting. Got a five gallon bucket of mixed wheel weights from a local quick-lube place for free, and sorted them one at a time to get rid of the steel & zinc weights, paring down to only lead ones. Using a stainless pot on a turkey fryer I melted, skimmed, fluxed, etc, to get clean melted lead, and made up 'ingots' in a couple of dollar-store cupcake/muffin pans.
Started with ~124 lbs of mixed wheel weights in the bucket and ended up with 81 lbs of approximately 1-1/2lb ingots the size & shape of smallish muffins. Enough for around 4,500 125-grain bullets or 2,500 230-grain bullets, give or take, from that one free bucket. Spent probably four or five hours in all, separating and melting; plus probably half a tank of propane. The same amount of pre-ingoted lead or alloy could be bought for probably $150-$200, so it's not the most profitable thing on an hourly-wage basis; but for whatever reason I actually enjoyed the process.
Haven't cast any bullets yet; have bought some molds but not a casting stove. Also haven't decided which lubing process (lubri-sizing, tumble-lubing, or oven-based coating) to go with yet, there seems to be pro's & cons to all three.
Picked up another 5-gallon bucket at another shop; this one costing $20 which is still plenty reasonable imo. Stopped at a third place (in a larger town) when driving by, and they wanted $65 a bucket, so I politely passed.
Traded off my kel tec p11 towards a ruger lcp. Saturday I shot it and my other pistols. I also got a desantis superfly, ammo, and a spare magazine for the lcp.
In shooting the lcp, wolf ammo let me practice malfunction drills. But even with that it was fairly accurate. Carry ammo for now will be 102 grain golden saber. I work nights at a convenience store so this is an important piece of gear.
Didn't meet my fitness activity goals for the week. But I do average about 3 plus miles a day walking at work.
You may have already seen these, but you might check out the shootingthebull410 '380 ammo quest' videos on youtube. They're not gospel or anything, but interesting to see how one load compares to another in gel with & without denim in front.
I looked at the luckgunner article on carry ammo. But I also picked what was available at the store. I want to try the Winchester PDX ammo based on expansion. I also tried fiocchi ammo and had one failure to go into battery though supposedly they have a superior bullet/performance. Small sample size, but I had to work within my budget.
Next week I start work for DHS in family services so no work carry for awhile, working in a government building. But my buying power will increase some. And better hours so I can work on my fitness goals more readily.
I spent most of my money last weekend. Today I worked on my shotgun, mossberg 500. Don't know if I fixed the extractor problem it had, but it is pumping a lot smoother. Painted the front sight of my ruger LCP with appliance repair paint I had on hand. Did some dry fire practice this week, today mostly with the lcp. Put new windshield wiper blades I had bought awhile back on my daily driver. Replaced the gasket on the thermostat housing and got my truck running. I think I am going to get new tires with my income tax refund.
picked grandchildren up from school, helped tinkypot with her math, encouraged her to go to college (eventually, she is 9)
watched the election circus
also last night watched (again) "bad day at black rock"
investigated trading one of my Harleys for a Victory Vegas
made plans to watch the stupid bowl at my oldest son's house so I could spoil some of my grandchildren a little more
before I retired, life was long and boring. there is a lot to be said about long frustrating days at work. it makes life seem endless. having time to myself makes the days fly by.
Yeah, I have been working on this also. Down to 189 from 204 4 months ago. Goal is to get down to 180 without making myself miserable. Believe it or not, Coffee and cigarettes is proving to be more of a help than just starving myself to death.
Silent Poet made an important point about preps. You deal with maintenance issues.
I replaced my windshield wipers, put fresh batteries in the dead watches, sent a kryptonite lock back that was under warranty, replaced a broken storage shelf and finished the periodic garage cleanup.
changed the workout, hitting the weights 3X a week, plus doing a mobility/stability workout on off days.
Changed the way I redistribute my paycheck to get out of debt a bit faster.
Bought one box of .380 ammo. Filled up all the vehicles with gasoline and it only took~30 dollars with the low gas prices. Finally replaced the ancient battery in my truck tonight. It was the cheapest battery Walmart had, but so far so good. Also purchased a locking gas cap. Bought a baklava but not as good as I thought it would be. I also got a cheap headlamp on clearance. It helped with the battery replacement.
Not much in the way of fitness or training this week. But it was my last week of working nights. So it should be easier to get those activities in going forward. Tomorrow I am going to get my supplements and medicine set up for the week.
Financially I have made arrangements to work six days a week so I can take care of debts and make appropriate purchases. With the new job and the old job part time, it should be maybe as much as 4-500 extra a month.
