Kicking it off a little early. So, since we're not quite there yet, what are your plans?

For me, keeping finances in check. Battening down whatever hatches I can.

The year of course, and the next several are framed by the fact that a socialist demon who believes his own failed policies is going to reinforce the need to keep prepping.

While we probably should never stop, if the election had turned out differently, I was looking forward to relaxing a little since upon reflection I started getting revved with prepping after Nov 2008. Funny that. I get the funny feeling preps may be consumed before this is all over.

Again, its financial. More than anything, and keeping the pantry topped off. I havent bought anything that goes boom since 2008 and am pretty much…no, lost all that in a tragic boating accident.

I would suggest before the year actually ends that you look into renewing any FAK's since apparently that stupid medical equipment tax kicks in on Jan 1 and is alleged to go right down to tongue depressors. So, if you need to get it, get it now. Even though its only a couple percent I am going to strive mightily to avoid paying anything extra to The Beast for the evil scheme.

And you? Plans for the new year?

QRW...

...never thought to look into rings, though. These are the first stand alone set of just 'rings' I've ever purchased
Don't think you'll be disappointed. I've got them on my main & backup CAR's, my scout and several of my other carbines. They're great stuff.

Had my roof inspected and some preventative maintenance done.

Increased our mortgage payment again and started drawing it twice monthly rather than once. Will save a decent amount of interest in the end.

Enrolled in an employee stock purchase plan with my wife's company. (On top of both our 401k and liquid savings)

The wife canned another batch of jam and okra.

Took a young lady that has been accepted into the Air Force Academy shooting. Got her familiar with my AR and HK USP.

Bought some ammo.

Reopened the plans on a water harvesting and holding system.

I picked up the AAC Handi Rifle today and it did not disappoint.

The rifle has a 16.25" barrel and is 30" long overall.

When you look at it the first time, you'll think it's an SBR.

The fit and finish is good overall with a VERY tight breech lockup. My only complaint is that the breech release is very loose and has quite a bit of play. I don't know if this is fixable but I'm gonna try. The other thing I've read is that the rail was not loc-tited on at the factory so I took care of that today.

I didn't get to sight it in as I'm waiting on the loc-tite to cure but did take a couple of shots with a .45 Osprey and 208 grain subsonic ammo. I was VERY impressed and I believe that my RWS pellet gun is louder.

I plan on making a range trip tomorrow to see how it groups. I'll post a follow up in the next couple of days.

Well, it's been 'what have I done over the past several weeks'. One action that I took from the AWB panic was to get spare parts on order. Nothing that I've desperately needed, but stuff that was nice to have for a longer-term shortage. On the day of the CT tragedy, I ordered many 1000s of primers (small rifle and small pistol). Since then, I've ordered spare bolts, gas rings, carrier groups, bullets, magazines, and a charging handle that I've wanted for some time.

I bought a Bushmaster Carbon 15 for the old retail price of $799 through Gander Mountain.

A Shrubmaster. Really? What have I done?!

This craziness (well, stupidity and elitism and socialism and power grabs are at the core) has really changed the market.

Set up a new EDC back that gives me more room and options.

Bought a pack of 10 AAA to AA conversion adapters.

Bought a new ferro rod (4 inches long and almost a half inch thick) for $3.36 off ebay. Suppose to be 10K+ strikes.

Harvested a LOT of tomatoes and various greens in our garden and planted more kale.

Bought another 100 round value pack of 12g #8 bird shot.

Went to the flea market and bought a few more bandanas.

Went to the dollar store and bought some more rain ponchos, 12 pack of steel wool and dental floss.

Probably some other stuff but that's what comes to mind.

Not running out and buying things.

1. converted vhs tapes to dvds. Packed up vcr and tapes for son.

2. did all my filing; making copies of selected cds to place in a different residence;

3. continued consolidation of items and culling unrepairable items;

4. identified worn furniture and computer equipment to be disposed of within the next month.

Why?

Your preparations are less valuable if disorganized, mingled with items that are worn, broken or don't work.

I will be trying to find the old police radio scanners in the next week and will dispose of them. Most of the transmissions are encoded these days, making this old technology just dust collectors.

Our rights given by the founders of the americas are being slowly chipped away just slowly enough that everyone is just becomming acustom to the new restrictions and not giving a ****. Im looked at like im crazy when i get the least pissed off about the fact that everything that these dtates are built on is being stirpped out from under us. The people that i work with think that i am a crazy person because i think it is wrongn to take away our wrights to own firearms no matter what type

Small points: Our Rights were not "given' to us by our founders. Nobody has the ability to give you that which is a Right. The Founding Fathers merely recognized that Rights, such as the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, existed, and that government could not legitimately deny those Rights.

The Founders didn't give us our Rights and the Constitution/Bill of Rights doe snot give us our Rights. They merely protect them. ;)

Interesting. That's nearly a description of what I've been doing, except I haven't actually found a VHS-to-DVD unit yet. We have numerous tapes (wedding, etc) that I want to convert to digital.

Did order another (third) holster from Crown; this one for the same M&P pistol as the first one, but with allowance for TLR-1 light on this one. Additionally ordered one set of their OWB adapters that lets you put the holster on & off without unthreading the belt. Will have to see how that works; like the idea but haven't used them yet.

Also completed a 5-day fast, Sunday thru Thursday. Numerous reasons; religious and personal discipline being the primaries. Was planning to do a 7-day (done it once before), but this time 5 was all I could do. With the increased load at work and the winter storm we had on Tuesday, without food I got gradually colder & colder, and by Thursday I just couldn't get warm no matter what I did. Finally ate dinner (green beans & rice mostly) on Thursday night and almost immediately was better. Lesson learned - cold weather requires more nourishment. Already knew it intellectually, but now have had it driven home viscerally; a much more lasting way to learn.

I just ordered a new model PVS 7 NV unit. I got it for a pretty good price through a Shot Show package.

I really had a difficult time deciding between several models offered, but I have access to multiple Pvs 14 units, and I like that I can use both eyes with the PVS 7.

Bought a generator (3000 Watts) and a Lyman T-Mag II press.
Did my twice a year check on the GHBs & BOBs.
Bought some 12 ge 00 buck and slugs.

Don't know if this counts, but the wife and I decided to buy a house from my parents and move out of our crappy neighborhood to a much better (although still sub-urban Detroit) city. We will be landlords, renting out our current house. My wife plans to parley this and (eventually) the new house into a rental empire that will fund our homestead property.

I don't know if we'll ever be able to make a lot of money on rentals, but I am happy that my wife is on-board and has a vision.

I think this absolutely counts.

As for me I bought a mossberg 715, a few extra magazines, 500 rounds of high-end 22 and a new case.

Also met with a lawyer to get the paperwork started on an NFA trust.

Thanks, we feel really good about it. It was pretty much a done deal but the final confirmation came last week when I booked (I am a jailer at the city PD) a brother and sister arrested for selling heroin. They live half a block from us.

This week prep-wise was mostly gun-related junk. Sorted & put away some misc shooting stuff that had been left scattered around from the holidays, and finished tweaking a batch of 16 steel israeli AR magazines. Never used steel AR magazines before - they don't have the flex of the feed lips that an aluminum or polymer magazine has, and these were real tight to spec - they only fit & locked easily in two of three guns I tried them in. One gun (with a low-dollar model-1 upper) had issues with them, so I slightly filed down the mag-catch window about ten or twelve one-thousandths; after which they're fine in all three.

Also went thru my old "user" aluminum AR mags. They all got a disassembly and good cleaning both inside & out (which is where a good dishwasher really shines imo; just don't tell my wife :whistling: ), and put magpul followers in the few that didn't have them already. Found one 30-rounder that needed chucking; but with a good internal cleaning was able to salvage a couple of 20's that I thought I'd have to toss but turned out to be ok. Even opened the last 'niw' GI mags I had that were still sealed up (some with mfg dates going back to 1984 :embarassed: ) and cleaned them up good & put magpul followers in them as well. After that, organized the storage of them - used GI, new unused GI, pmag, steel, etc.

Did also try a new model of gas can out of frustration; the justrite Type 1 five-gallon. Being the old round style, it's not as nice for storage as the rectangular military cans, but my wife says I'm more "uncle joe" than "GI Joe" anymore, and it at least does away with the aggravating eco-nazi nozzle crap that the new in-store plastic gas cans all seem to have nowadays. So far, the only downside is that they don't have a built-in nozzle, so a funnel is sometimes necessary. Other than that, they're pretty good, heavy-gauge steel that seem well-made so far.

They make another version that does have a ventilated flexible metal spout built in, but too rich for my blood at $80 apiece. These are half that.

I did this with all of my home movies several years ago. At the time I was concerned that the magnetic impression on the VHS tapes would deteriorate and I would lose my home movies. Surprise, surprise. When I checked into the longevity of DVD's it appears they may not last as long as tapes. It's been a long time since I investigated this, but I haven't heard anything to the contrary. Most sources suggested buying quality blanks. I usually use TDK or Verbatim. I had 2 packs of Sony blank DVD's that were in individual jewel cases with 10 blisterpacked together. They sat on a shelf in my family room for 4 or 5 years. Always under ideal conditions. I was amazed when I decided to use one and found the silver layer peeling off like a poor paint job. Glad I never used them for anything important. Hang onto those old tapes, you may need to duplicate again :wow:

PS - some of my vhs tapes were 20+ years old when I copied them.

Drew up plans for a small backyard garden. About 190 square feet.

3k rounds of various calibers. (hit the jackpot at walmart right as they were unloading a truck. Grabbed 2 1,000 round boxes of Winchester .22)

Another new tent.

4 Swiss army recruit knives. Brand new for $4.45.

Instead of transferring to DVD, put them into the digital movie format of your choice on your computer's hard drive. Then put them on a spare hard drive for safekeeping. Burn them to DVD to watch.

-(2) full helmet rigs set up for PVS 7

Spent some time researching IR illuminaters. Ordered a Luna Optics laser illuminater, will also be looking into Surefire vampire series for other options.

This was a VERY good suggestion - I did some googling around and I'm using ImgBurn to do just that. Thanks a million for the suggestion :wavey:

I made an upgrade to my Garand.

And I got the upper for my next AR (already have BCM BCG and almost everything else I need, limiting factor will be the LPK I ordered from PSA)

Traded my g17 towards a glock 21. It is for my hopeful return to being a reserve deputy. The g21 came with 6 magazines and a laser grip. It is still on layaway till I can pay it off. Also maid progress towards my debt reduction plan, only one more month and my next to biggest debt is done. Should be mostly done later this month, depending on the how the fees and penalties are calculated I could still owe maybe a hundred or so next month.

Been taking the reserve police course again. So I have been taking a class for about 3-4 weeks now. Getting back in the grove of shooting and having a better mindset.

Money is basically spoken for this month, so no major prep purchases. But next month I may work on my storage a little. Also increased my tools a good bit last month. So I think I have had a productive year so far. Figure out a plan to do some improvements on my daily driver and keep it instead of getting a new vehicle with payments. I figure for 2-300 or maybe as much as 500 dollars in parts I can really put some new life into the car. So that counts as a prep because it has a such a large influence on my debt.
