I did search but could not find out specific information-

I know that all three use frames and slides from Armscorp - I also know that RIA WAS dist of Armscorp and it is now CITADEL. STI uses thier internals - and are in Tx so that is nice for me to know.

My quesiton is this - RIA, CITADEL - is there really any difference between them to justify cost difference for a compact (I have seen a 150.00 - 200.00 price difference with Citadel being more)? This is in regards to reliability and quality.

It is my understanding that Citadel is new dist for armscorp and gunbroker has several examples of each but it seems that Citadel has "upgraded features". My issue is that if both are the same then I will just get the RIA Compact - but if there is a difference I would like to know so I can make an informed decision.

RIA compact and Citadel Compact images attached for comparison

This is going to be my first 1911 in approx 15 years - any information to clarify my understanding would be greatly appreciated.

i was in the same position. im not sure about the company of citadel but im actually ordering an RIA compact tactical today. there is a basic compact for about $350-400 but the RIA tactical is the same thing as the citadel and what you have pictured above. the RIA tactical is only about $50-75 less than the citadel from what ive seen. but they are the same gun.

I would get the Citadel just because of the sight upgrade. They are Novack cut and you can put some better sight upgrades.

If you find the RIA tactical compact it comes with Novak "style" sights, with novak cut. I have a recent post about my new RIA compact, I really like it. Not too many rounds down it yet, but it is going to go through the paces in the coming weeks.

Both are solid guns with a lifetime warranty

Only the STI Spartan has anything to do with Armscor.

Its the best out of those three.

Exactly. The Spartan and the RIA Match are almost twins. I have the RIA Match, and it is one hell of a shooter.

^ i honestly have not heard one bad thing about RIA except that its not the same as a premium $1000 1911 and i can live with that.

I have to admit, in MY hands, my RIA Match shoots almost as good as my Kimber Target that was custom built to Bullseye specs by John Vincent at Hallston Custom. No knock on John's work, because that's THE BEST shoting gun I own. But, my RIA Match shoots damn good. Enough so, that I'm eventually going to have the barrel flush crowned and have the gun hardchromed soon. With no other customizing done to it, other than maybe having the ambi swapped out for a single sided safety.

Here's a target shot with 100 rounds, offhand at 25 yards (by me:embarassed:) with the Target II.

Here's a 100 round target shot offhand at 25 yards, shot with the RIA Match, (again, by me and after shooting 100 rounds in the Target II), so I'm sure there was some shooter fatigue setting in, with the RIA Match.

Thanks, but if I was to shoot them off a bench rest, they'd all be in or close to the red. Those were shot off hand and I don't claim to be an expert shot.

ya i have never shot off a bench rest. i do pretty good 2 handed and i can even keep it on target one handed. but im hoping that the RIA will help with more accuracy just because it fits in my hands like butter :)

Here's one that I'm pretty proud of shot by my Pro Raptor. 150 rounds offhand at 25 yards.

Thanks. I should have quit after 50 rounds. Shooter fatigue sets in around 50 rounds for me and after that, my groups start to spread out.

Yes. They're made in the Philippines and distributed out of Nevada. They have a pretty good gunsmith in Pahrump, named Arnel. They have excellent customer service too. You won't go wrong with a Rock Island. I have 3 of them (5" Tactical, 5" Match and 3.5" GI) and like them alot.

I meant the only STI. The others in this thread are also Armscor. :)
