OK so I was going to buy a 1911 for my 21st birthday, but with the economy doing so well I had to pay for other things first. I was looking into entry level 1911's such as the RIA tactical, Charles Daly, etc. I needed a right side safety since I am left handed. My original budget was <600. Now, I have saved up a bit and my budget is $700-800. I am now leaning towards a springer loaded SS. What say ye 1911 brain-trust? Anything else that I haven't seen in this price range?

    thanks,

  2. the Springfield Loaded is the only thing that comes to mind in that price range. also, if the budget is tight, put the ammo prices into consideration. 1k worth of 45 ACP ammo (if you can find any) can buy another gun of the same price range

Since you need an ambi, it really narrows down your choices.

    Hey BaC,

I searched other posts about the SA loaded..why is it that you don't care for them? Is it cosmetic of functionality that you don't like? I'm new into the 1911 schema and would appreciate the help. Thanks

There are a lot of options in the used market.

Kimber has a good selection in that price range used on this forum in the firearms listings.

They aren't bad, but I firmly believe Kimber and Smith & Wesson make better 1911s in the same price range.

When it comes to Springfields, I like the TRP and the custom guns. I also like the GI as a 1911A1 replica. As far as the Loaded is concerned, I could take it or leave it.

I have one more question. Do all SA 1911's have the ILS?

I'd look at Kimber in that pricerange (gunshow, gunbroker.com or here on the forum) you can get some from as low as $600ish. Then overtime you could replace the MIM parts with Ed Brown or other higher quality parts.
