Guys, a couple months ago I purchases a Colt GCT and absolutely fell in love with the 1911 and the .45 round. I have a G23 G4 I want to get rid of for another .45. Any Colt is going to run 1000 dollars minimum, does anyone have any ideas for a lower end 1911 that is as dependable as the colt in the 600 dollar range? My other option is a new G30 or G30SF...:dunno:

Take a look at the guide in my signature for many great choices. :)

There are plenty of brand new Colts that can be had for around $750-800 if you negotiate hard enough.

This. Also I like the SR1911 but they're damn near impossible to find right now.

The Remington R1 Enhanced model could be a good choice as well

A friend and co worker of mine is my FFL. He has been telling me about the Rock Island Armory. I was looking for a 4.25 barrel length Colt but he is telling me about the RIA Tactical .45. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this manufacturer or their firearms? Here is the link to his site.

I have a Mid-size RIA. 4" cone (bull) barrel, 8+1, 1911 configuration and my daily CCW. 500 rounds with no problems at all. $399 +tax and you can build it up like most any other 1911.

IF you can find one a Ruger SR1911 is real close to that price range:thumbsup:

I have that exact gun (RIA Compact Tactical). I love it. Over time I changed out some parts (cosmetic reasons), but out-of-the-box it shot better than my Kimber! Highly recommended.

I have the RIA cs and it is my daily carry. 600+rds and not a single malfunction of any kind. HPs or ball. Can't go wrong for the money.

The Ruger SR1911 if you want a Series 70 and a Remington R1 if you want a Series 80. Both have performed very well for me.

The RIA Tactical and Compact Tactical are fantastic pistols.

Another good choice to CCW would be the American Classic Commander. Mine is in Hard Chrome. Nice pistol for under $600.

JRS.. Are those grips stock? If not where did you get them? I like the way they match the rest of the pistol.

The grips are not stock. The ones on the Gov't model are off of a Kimber I have.

Here is a link to a set I found on a search.

I cannot remember where I got the Officer-size grips.

Can find some Colt 1991's online for 750-850 if you look hard enough. Maybe even cheaper than that.

Didn't even realize they were rubber. The one's on the Govt size is rubber too I'm guessing?

Look to ATI, AC or RIA. Great value 1911s at $400-$450 IMO.
