I like the 180 gr. HP for SD..seems like at that weight the 40 S&W is alot like a hot 44 Spl.

    40 S&W 180gr. HP 1150fps type "0" correction

    44 spl. 200gr. jhp 1021fps

    almost like having a semi Hi-cap 44 Spl. !

1180 fps for a 180gr .40 is smoking! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a manufacturer makes those claims. If you reload it's possible, but even then, it's a stout load! I have loaded to over 1150 fps out of my stock G23, so it's possible yes, but it's pushing it!

SAFE Handload using 8 grains of Longshot Powder..... closer to 1150 fps (had to recheck my notes) sorry bout the type "0"

Please as always work your way up to Max load

But forgiving my mistake..and bad memory

    Even @ 1000 FPS a 180gr. 40 S&W is very comparable to a 44 Spl.

For my locale, weather, etc., I believe the 180-gr. is the right choice.

Sure enough, Hodgdon does indeed list this loading, and at typical 32k PSI...

Stout load, bridging/blurring the gap between the std .40 and the Ten, IMO...

    Impressive powder, that Longshot....

  7. The CorBon 135 is listed at 1150 fps. I use this round in my 27. Have not seen a 40 round listed faster, would be interested though.
