..Hey Mas: Thinking only about the street records of these two rounds, not considering capacity of the G23 or the short sight radius of the J frame. which round would provide better protection?

If you needed to shoot, you'd certainly be better off with the 14 HST .40s in your Glock 23 than the five .38 "New York loads" in your 442. However, there are places where you'll be able to carry your 442 a lot more comfortably and discreetly than your G23.

The adaptability of the platform will decide more than the per-cartridge power factor. Or, you can just do what I'd do, and carry your G23 as primary and your 442 for backup.

    best,
    Mas
