I just picked up my 29 recently and am looking for some good HD ammo as well as carry ammo. I see Underwood has both 165 and 180 grain available. What would you recommend? I currently have Winchester 175 Silvertips but have always like the Gold Dots.

175 grain silvertips will work just fine. For golddot I always use the heavy one. 180 grain is fine.

I personally reload 175 Grain Silvertips. (bought 500 of them from Midway). They run about 1300 FPS and function 100%.

    Take care, Bob

Get both 165 and 180 gold dot, 165 when it is warm, 180 when it is cold. I guess if I had to pick just one, it would be the 180 as it would almost always penetrate more...

But, I bought both from Underwood. Really kind of splitting hairs to have to pick one or the other. Ahhh, just get both....

Gold dot is my preferred 10 mm ammo. Don't hunt much so gold dot it is.

I like the 165s. They seem more suitable to 10mm velocities compared to the softer-nosed 180. The 180s seem to be constructed more for the 40 S&W strength loads. 165s hold together very well and blossom nicely up to about 1350 fps.

    When I need an all-purpose projectile, I like a 180 gr XTP.

In the "testing" I have done, the 155gr and 165gr Gold Dots are capable of handling full 10mm velocity (and Underwood is definitely full 10mm velocity). The 180gr Gold Dots seem to over expand at anything above .40S&W velocity. Below are some pictures of recovered Gold Dots fired into various media.

    155gr Gold Dots at 1400, 1325, 1360fps:

I like the 155gr the best, followed by the 165gr. I'm sure the 180gr bullet would work fine, but I would prefer the others.

21, have you tried any 180's at less then 1150 fps?

I knew I ordered too soon :crying:. If I would have seen this before ordering, I would have went ahead and went with the 180's.

I am very interested in this load. Would you mind sharing your results? Groups, function, etc.

    Thanks!
