    So you have a pre-Sweet Sixteen- 1930 or earlier model 3 or 5 shot? Are you absolutely sure it wasn't convert to 2 3/4" alot of them were? And also unfortunate you can't just get newer 2 3/4" barrel and put it on the one you have !:faint: As too the 2 1/2 " shells it may or may not function the action because the A5's are inertial actions meaning you have to have enough pressure to work it properly! Mine likes heavy field loads best!:supergrin: Love the A5's have three of them now, Light 12, Mag 12 and the Sweet!

    It is an A5 and no it was never converted. My dad told me when I was young that you could fire (not sure of the proper terminology) rolled with the wadding showing as opposed to the crimped shell, but I called Browning and talk to a tec. he advised against it. Since I did not plan to hunt with it just leave it the way it is because they would convert it, but it would be expensive.. I kind of hate that because if it is a gun I want to shoot it. If it is a car I want to drive it. haha

    I've had my 16 ga 870 since the mid-sixties. It has collected quite a bit of 4 legged and winged game. At some point I bought an extra smoothbore barrel, had it cut down to 20" and rifle sights installed. I found it wasn't all that accurate with slugs, but OK with shot, & was able to find some #1 buck at Cheaper than Dirt about a year ago. I keep it loaded with that behind the BR door.

    #1 looks pretty deadly at in-house distances. It also fits in a 16 ga shell better than 00.
