Wondering what options are out there for pump action shotguns that chamber 3.5 inch rounds?
I have a mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag it takes 3.5" shells. I don't use it for much. Deer hunting a couple times. Never had any problems with it. It is on heavy side.
Remington 870 SuperMag.
I bought one about 2, maybe 3 years ago from Dick's Sporting Goods.
Got a heck of a deal on it. After rebates, and a 'gift card' with 'reward points' and being on sale, I got this scattergun for less than $150.00!!!
(And it's still NIB!)
Hunting rhino's or elephants? I just really don't see the need for 3.5 unless we are talking about reallllyy long range goose/duck etc...on the wing.
I like the Nova for 3.5's myself.
I don't care for the balance of the Mossbergs and the 870 Super Mags tended to jam on me. I have never had that problem with any of my five regular 870s.
Browning has 3.5" models in their BPS line.
Mossberg 535/835 in various models
Remington 870 Supermag in a few different models
Remington 887 (new)
Benelli Supernova in various models
I only have experience with the Mossy 835, but it's very similar to the 590A1. I currently have mine setup with an 18.5" smoothbore, extended tube, and pistol grip
High flying Canadian Geese is about the only thing I can think of that'd need a 3.5" shell, but personally I think a 10 gauge is an even better choice though if your looking for a "Goose gun".
Ahhh - 10g. The good old days.
How's the cost of 10ga ammo compared to 3.5" 12ga these days?
Here is my 3.5" shooter (and 2 3/4" and 3"). A Benelli SuperNova
^^^ Any chance to show it off huh? It's all good love your videos. Anyway, I honestly can't remember the last time I have seen a 10 gauge round for sale???
Lol, yeah I love this thing.
Have an 870 Express Super Mag Turkey Gun.
23'' barrel, 3 1/2 in. chamber.
Never fired a full size magnum shell in it and
probably never will.
Like some of the above posts, geese and ducks
would take a 3 or 3 1/2, which I do not hunt.
I use a Benelli Nova for all my 3.5" needs. Goose, duck, and turkey. I have several shotguns and this is the only one that will take the 3.5" shells. It is one of my favorite hunting guns because it is also very light.
thanks for the suggestions guys. From what I have seen the 3.5 12 ga has pretty much killed off the 10 ga market. Federals top 3.5 load is heavier than there 10 gauge loads and the 12 fires it at a greater velocity.
honestly for all intents and purposes I dont "need" a gun that fires 3.5s, but I do think that you could make a nasty defense round from that shell. I mean one could pack a bunch of #1 buck in there and still get magnum velocity....
Ok, I'll show mine off too . My 3.5" shooter, if I ever decide to use 3.5" shells. With my +2 mag extension, I can fit 7 of the 2.75" shells in there, enough needed for what I use it for.
Remember, the Mossberg 835 is overbored, and you cannot shoot slugs. Should say it right on the barrel.
Not true in the obvious case of the rifled slug barrel 835s, but you can also special order an 18.5" smoothbore straight from Mossberg that has the 3.5" chamber and can shoot slugs. I know cuz it's on my 835 now
I have a Benelli SuperNova and it is a great shotgun!
