On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the least, what would you rate as the 10 worst evils/ills/bad things in the world today?

No names of individuals, please - just the issues.

    Thank you!

    Politicians - 1
    Zealots - 1
    Religion - 1
    Ignorance - 1
    Pot heads - 10
    Gay Marriage - 10

I know you asked for 10... but these are the 5 main ones that came to mind and the top 3 really are the core of all other issues. Eliminate or correct those three... and the rest falls in place nicely.

For beginners, I'll stick with the basic 7:
    1. pride
    2. envy
    3. gluttony
    4. lust
    5. anger
    6. greed
    7. sloth
and throw in the ever popular
    8. coveting (which is envy really I suppose)
    9. People who look but do not SEE
    10. People who listen but do not HEAR

Gandhi's list is even better I think:
    Wealth without Work
    Pleasure without Conscience
    Science without Humanity
    Knowledge without Character
    Politics without Principle
    Commerce without Morality
    Worship without Sacrifice

I think he was saying those are the least of our worries. In the OP he said 1 being the worst, 10 being the least bad.

10mm was saying that religious extremists/ideoligists and the like are the cause of a high quantity of the problems we see today, while gays that want to marry or people puffing on the reefer are so minute that they don't affect anyone other than those involved. That is how I took his post anyways.

The cause of all evil is selfishness. I'm not talking about taking care of your self, because that is a good thing. I am talking about the lack of caring for others and only serving your own interests. The opposite of selfishness is selflessness or love. A favorite verse from the Bible is:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Justice that must be bought is an evil as well. I guess that goes back to selfishness though, really.

Leave them alone. It's not for the government to legislate morality nor is it the governments place to tell FREE people what they can and cannot do with their bodies. So long as they are not causing direct and credible harm (we have laws that cover that already) it shouldn't be an issue.

The irony is that I do not participate in the consumption of pot as I have no desire to do so and I am quite hetero, but I still strongly believe in the right of a free people to do as they choose without government interference.

The simple truth is the "war on drugs" is a complete failure and had done nothing to curb the "problem". It has however created a powerful criminal element and caused a massive over-population problem in our prison system as well as taken non-violent "offenders" and put them in a very hostile environment which only serves to create a bigger problem.

The irony is pot has been used by humans for thousands of years... of course this critical piece of information is often overlooked as it completely destroys the "pot is bad for you" argument.

And as for who marries who... that's not the realm of government in my opinion. Now, limiting marriage to same species... I can see that. But if two men or women choose to have a life together and wish to solidify their commitment through the holy matrimony of marriage then that is the purview of the church, not the state.

I have a very Libertarian way of looking at life... and when it comes to drugs and personal choices, as a freeman that believes in the right to choose and the right to pursue happiness as one sees fit, I cannot agree with the current state of affairs as it pertains to drugs and marital restrictions.

"The Declaration of Independence enshrines three basic rights: the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right to life is the only fundamental right, from which all other rights are derived.

The right to life protects the individual’s ability to take all those actions necessary for the preservation and enjoyment of his life. It is based on the idea that life is the standard of moral value.

The right to liberty protects the individual’s ability to think and to act on his own judgment. It is based on the idea that rationality is man’s highest moral virtue. The right to pursue happiness protects the individual’s ability to live for his own sake, rather than for the sake of society. It is based on the idea that the pursuit of one’s self-interest is one’s highest moral purpose.

honey booboo child. 1. actually make that a -10.

this show is absolute proof that we have let our own society crumble and our brains atrophy beyond repair. that's the future generation we're allowing to happen and not only are we allowing it we're celebrating and encouraging it by putting it on television as "entertainment".

when the romans needed to distract the masses they introduced the gladiators and the coliseum, "reality" tv is the same thing except much more sick and twisted just for it's sheer audacity and gall.
