I'd be willing to bet that the real sugar cane sugar is better for you than that "hi fructose corn syrup"

Need to look at the time frame, of the increase in obesity vs. when food mfgr's. started using corn sweetener.

And check when Archer,Daniels,Midland started contribuiting HEAVILY to political causes.....and food lobbying !

ADM is the LARGEST producer of corn sweetener in the WORLD.

My local Safeway actually sells (don't laugh) "Organic Evaporated Cane Juice Sugar."
I can tell you that the stuff actually tastes a lot better than regular sugar.

When I drive through CA's central valley, I can see the train cars filled with beets waiting outside of one of the sugar processing plants. Ever wonder why C&H Sugar doesn't have the adds where they sing "...pure cane sugar from Hawaii..." anymore?

    There's another reason.....

Sugar cane hasn't been a sustainable cash crop in Hawaii for over 20 years. It's far too labor intensive, given the minimum wage laws in America. The only "sugar plantations" left are the ones that they show to the tourist groups, as an example of how sugar USED to be grown in Hawaii !
Pineapples can be grown with far less labor, since automated planting & harvesting came into usage.
I learned this several years ago, when Auntie & I were in Hawaii for our 25th wedding anniv. trip/2nd honeymoon.

    1) Congratulations on being married so long. Only 14 years for me.
    2) That explains why my tasty cane sugar is so expensive. But, then again, cane sugar is still cheap enough that it is one of the few things that I can splurge on. :wow:
    3) Tourism is one of those few times when it is advisable to wear those rose colored glasses.
    4) It's too expensive to grow sugar cane for consumption in the U.S. (due to minimum wage laws) .... and they can turn sugar cane into ethanol in Brazil.
    5) Conclusion: :faint:The world is a weird place.

And as long as it is there will be room for our operations to make a healthy "margin"

My family has a history with working Sugar cane plantations along the Mississippi River over many years...my grandfather sold out around 1968.

It probably had more to do with government paying farmers not to plant...to control prices.

    Sugarcane makes great rum...
The bagasse by products were also used bio fuel, a host of building materials and other products like paper, cattle feed...

Just another intervention by Government Gone Wild!

Sugarcane makes the only TRUE rum !
Corn should never be made into sugar, it works best as White Lightning
Lacking that, corn's best product is Bourbon.....beats hell outta corn flakes !

Corn is good for tacos too! One of Taterhead's favorite food groups.

Taters make some pretty good Russian hooch.

Perhaps we should convene a Special Plenipotentiary Tribunal to consider whether grain or potatoes makes the best Russian vodka.

The Russians make alcohol out of anything vegetable that will rot & can be distilled.
Some of it is better used for racing alky than drinking alky....

That's a great scarf........but you have to be 6'4" to wear it correctly.
A friend made one for me, the correct length, and I can wrap it around myself to the point that I look like a multi-colored Michelien Man.

I would like to apply for the position in the name of furthering the cause of humanity through science.

To whom do I submit my curriculum vitae?

Your name sorta biases your application to head this particular tribunal. I suggest you become a member of the research adjudication team, instead. More drinking, less thinking.
