  1. New York made dents in crime because they have a cop on every corner. Now if everyone carried a gun like the wild west maybe it would help.:whistling:

    Overlooked by the article is the long-term effect. Even if you magically cut funding to golf courses and other fluff, you can't grow a cop overnight. You're stuck with a year plus process to hire and train a single cop, and the number of new hires your FTOs can handle is always limited. Plus, you've laid off the junior guys, putting your overall force closer to retirement and sticking natural attrition into the mix.

    Damage done in the space of a single recession can take 15 years to fix.
