My last week

On Friday, I'll start my last 4 days as a sworn officer. I'm going to be moving back to Pennsylvania mainly to be closer to family, but lots of job related reasons as well...poor leadership, crumbling pension that I will likely never receive full benefits from, health insurance that used to be much better, tired of nights and weekends and holidays, feel like my family lives one life and I'm living another due to my schedule, etc.

It's been an interesting 9 years and I've gained a lot of experience I'll be looking to spin into another job. I have an interview in mid March with a real choice civilian PD admin job for me...we'll see how it goes. I'm one of the two finalists and they are actually paying to fly me in for the interview, so I assume I have more than just a token chance. My wife did already get a job, so we've got something to go to either way. I will certainly still be around, but my days as an officer are in the single digits.

Asking too much is an understatement. They are asking for everything you've got, for you to like it, and to beg for more.

Clyde I don't blame you one bit. I'm halfway to retirement, and I've been considering leaving lately.

It was fun when when I 22 and single. Now the long hours and nights are taking a toll on my health.

Man I can relate..I am 45 working with 22 year olds on the night shift, who would rather be out drinking at the clubs....me I just want to go to bed! This job wears me out!

If I wasn't 4 years and change from going I would probably be gone.

Good luck.

Do you get a pension with only 9 years on the job? my state requires 10 years to be vested in the pension system. If you do then congrats to you and good luck in your future .....if not invest that money you paid in wisely....

Nope. I'll just cash out and I get 185% of what I put in. Couldn't have done any better with that money in the stock market over that period of time.

Congratulations, brother. Godspeed to you and yours.

I remember my 13th year was pretty rough. A couple of our now retired guys got burnt out at 13 years only to come back after a few years.

Cacop, I certainly won't feel sorry for myself, but I am in a rut right now. Maybe give you a shout sometime to vent if you are up for it.

Anyway I am trampling on this thread. Op, thanks for your service and putting in the years that you have!
